Y/n drove to the church down the road, knowing that Lenora always visits her mothers grave after school, sometimes read the bible with her.

But it was short-lived because Lenora insisted to clean up her brother and his girlfriend. She wiped the blood from the back of Y/n's head, and the nose of Arvin,

"It was a sight you two didn't end up in hospital." Lenora lectured.

"Yeah, well, there's a lot of no good sons of bitches out there." Arvin replied.

"Well, Lord, Arvin, you've been sayin' that almost since the day I met ya."

"Yeah, well, that's because its true."

"Well, maybe you should try prayin' for 'em, would that hurt none?" Lenora tried to reason with her brother, but he was just not like her.

"You already do enough for all of us, and where's it doin' you much good, huh?" Arvin replied "You know what'll do you good? To not be wanderin' behind school by your own self like I told you... fuckin' Gene Dinwoodie."

"Arvin, she's not a child for you to watch over... she's a grown woman." Y/n defended her, receiving a thankful look from Lenora.

"...You ever think about... how we ended up orphans in the same house?" The girl asked. Arvin gave her a disapproving look,

"No. Besides, you might not even be an orphan... as far as everyone around her is concerned, your Daddy's probably out there somewhere alive and kickin'... fuck, he might even come over that hill any day now dancin' a jig." He said, making everyone laugh a little.

"I hope so." Lenora says, dreamily "I pray every day he will."

"Even if it means he did somethin'?" Y/n asked.

"I've already forgiven him... we could start over."

"That's crazy..." Arvin, again, disapproves.

"No its not... what about your Father?" Lenora says boldly, making Y/n look for Arvin's reaction.

"What about him?" He glared at her "I know what my Daddy did."

"Well..? Forgivin' him..? If he came back-"

"Well, shut your mouth, we both know that ain't gonna happen." Arvin stood up, wanting this topic to be dropped.

"I'm sorry for bringin' it up." His sister grabbed his hand in apology.

"It's alright."

"You know, I appreciate you always comin' with me. I know the both of you would rather be doin' somethin' else." Y/n was about to protest, but they were all summoned by her great uncle from the church, calling them over. They all ran over and he started coughing,

"Uncle, are you alright?" Y/n went over to his side.

"I'm fine, pumpkin, I'm fine." He replied, leaning against her, still coughing. "I just got a call from the doctor, they say that I need to stay off work."

"Where will you go?" Y/n asked.

"My daughter said I can stay with her for a while, while her husband is off in Vietnam. I'll be gone for a while."

"I'll be prayin' for you." Lenora says to him, helping him down on the step.

"In the meantime, my sister's boy from down in Tennessee is gonna take my place."

Y/n froze.

Sister's boy... that's his nephew...

Nephew's mother is sister... Y/n's Grandma...
