ngl i was so nervous to write this, its such an important chapter and I was scared not to do it justice and I still feel like it could be much better but here we are lol

"I am not ready!"

"Vis, you are in shock, we have to go."

"It is too soon, Aemond!"

He stood in front of her and grabbed her shoulders. "Visenya Targaryen, if you refuse this, everything will be for nothing. Our years of work and dedication lead to this very moment. If you don't go to the small council right now, they will laugh at you. You will never be taken seriously."

She twisted the rings on her fingers, looking down at the red and black dress she had just changed into. "Yes, of course," She whispered.

Aemond pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her head. "I will be by your side the whole time. You will never be alone during this, Visenya."

"You know what this means, Aemond," She whispered.

Aemond didn't stiffen as she expected. "She made her choices, as have I. And I chose you."

"I don't want us to be ten years in the future and I realize you resent me for it."

"I could not. I will not. I accepted this choice long ago. I will choose you and our children without any hesitance, no questions asked. You are my wife, and you are my queen. Now let's go show them what you've become in the shadows."

She nodded, clenching her fists to stop them from shaking. Aemond escorted her down the halls until they reached the small council chamber, stepping inside. All eyes looked up at her and she held her head up, not looking at any of them as she walked to her seat.

"And why have we all been summoned at this ungodly hour?" Tyland asked.

"The king has passed in his sleep."

Silence spread across the room and realization sunk into everyone's faces.

"Any servants that know have been locked up so that word does not reach Dragonstone. It is time to enact our plan," Alicent continued.

Lord Beesbury was the only one that was confused. "What plan? We must alert the heir, we need to send a raven to Dragonstone."

"I think not, Lord Beesbury," Visenya spoke. Now was her time. He had underestimated her for years, most of them hadn't seen her domineering side. Not that she was arrogant, but they would think she was.

"Do not tell me you all plan to usurp the throne?" He yelled. "Hundreds of lords and landed knights swore fealty to the Princess Rhaenyra!"

"That was some twenty years ago, most of those lords are dead," Tyland said with a yawn.

"I am six-and-seventy years old. I have known Viserys longer than any who sit at this table. And I will not believe that he said this on his deathbed, alone, with only the boy's mother as a witness. This is seizure! It is theft, it's treason!"

"Mind your tongue, Lyman," Aemond said.

"The King was well last night... by all accounts. Which of you here can swear that he died of his own accord?"

Alicent's eyes went wide and Tyland scoffed. "Which of us are you accusing of regicide, Lyman?"

"It could be all of you, it makes sense. Why else would that girl be allowed on this council?"

"That girl is who we have decided to name queen in place of her treasonous mother," Tyland responded.

Lord Beesbury stood. "I will not -"
