A New Day

Grant groaned in discomfort as he sat up, the old and itchy Blanket draped over him

He placed a hand on the back of his neck, rolling it in unease.

A night's sleep on the cold cement floor left him sore and more than a little upset.

He sat in a groggy daze. Unsure as to what he should do.

He was stuck in a cave...or base of some sort. With giant sentient robots that were "holding him for his own safety"

Should he leave his room on his own? Should he wait until he's summoned?

After a few moments of deliberation, Grant groggily stood up, tossing the Blanket off himself in mild frustration.

He wobbled to the door, the large mechanism sliding open, the bright lights of the underground base blinding him for a moment.

Much to his surprise, the base was quiet. No marching troops or drills are being done.

In a concoction of caution and curiosity, he walked through the door, hesitantly straying from the room.

He wandered the halls, a modicum of anxiety pulsing through his veins.

He eventually managed to find his way to what appeared to be the main gathering space of the base, a large recreation type room, though it had rather minimal furnishings.

In the room were a few familiar faces. Individuals he had met the day prior.

There was Ares, WheelJack, and Optimus, whom he now knew as the leader of the crew he found himself under the guardianship of.

Optimus was the first to notice Grant's presence, his optics widening slightly in realization.

"Ah, Mister Hocksted. I trust you had a good rest?" He asked curiously, diverting the attention of both other present Autobots.

"As well as one can rest on a cement floor..." Grant said with a slight awkward chuckle.

"I apologize for the lack of accommodations...however as you are aware, this was a...last minute decision," Optimus explained in sympathy.

"Yeah, well....cant really complain. I guess... I'd rather be kidnapped by the good guys than the bad guys," Grant said with a hesitant chuckle.

"You are the good guys, right?" Grant asked with slight unease in his voice.

Ares raised an eyebrow, her arms crossed.

"This is what humans call gratitude?" She asked in slight annoyance.

"Hey, light-brite. I'm new to this whole "alien war" thing, " the teen said in retort, an annoyed tone of his own creeping into his voice.

"I don't know if you're the empire or the rebels in this situation," he added. Crossing his arms.

"Light-brite?" Ares questioned in confusion, uncertain if she should be offended or not.

"I assure you, mister Hocksted, we are the..."rebels" in this scenario. Even if we wished to call ourselves an empire. We lack the forces to back the title, " Optimus stated factually.

"That would make Megatron Darth Vader then," WheelJack chimed in with a slight chuckle.

"Megatron?" Grant asked in confusion.

"The leader of the Decepticons," Optimus said simply.

"Yeah, I was originally going to say he was palpatine... but Megatron's not exactly known for his patience," WheelJack said, placing his hands on his hips.

"Do you know of this....human custom?" Optimus asked Ares in slight confusion.

Ares sighed slightly. "WheelJack's been going to some drive-in theaters...ive been a few times," she explained, earning a hum from Optimus.

"So...what's the plan then? For me, that is" Grant asked warily.

"Until we can determine the exact reason for your body producing Energon. You will remain here. "

"We will obtain more appropriate furnishings for your stay," Optimus explained honestly.

The sound of wheels squealing caught Grant's attention before Arcee came walking into the room, a small brown paper bag in her large hand.

"Hey, Kiddo." Arcee called out.

"Catch"

Grant struggles to do so for a moment. But he managed to catch the paper bag, opening it curiously.

"Oh my god," he said in realization, fishing a butger out of the bag.

Arcee chuckled softly as Grant bit into the burger, near instantly seeming to relax.

"Arcee... how did you -"

"I've been picking up some human currency here and there. I figured it could be useful, " Arcee explained, cutting Optimus off.

WheelJack let out a slight laugh, crossing his arms.

"Looks like he has a favorite." He said, causing Grant to nod, gesturing to Arcee.

"Leaps and bounds ahead the rest of you" he said in agreement, taking another bite of his burger.
