Parties Were Never My Strong Point

I woke up in my bed with a start. Cold sweat was dripping down my neck. I checked the clock on my bedside table. Two in the afternoon. I got out of bed and shakily walked to the bathroom. Everything was normal. I looked in the mirror. Normal. I turned on the cold water and splashed some on my face. It felt good. I turned off the tap and looked back into the mirror. Still normal. I walked out of the bathroom and went downstairs.

Aunt Clarice and the gang had left. Good. I didn't want to deal with them after that.

"It's two in the goddamn afternoon, Clark! We have to go in an hour!" Father shouted to me from the living room. I walked to the kitchen. I was starving.

"Go where?" I replied whilst looking through the cupboards. As usual, nothing that interested me. I gave up on food and went into the living room.

"We have a party to go to, don't you remember?" Mother said softly. She was always like that. She never shouts anymore. Not since Lilith.

I did remember the party. It was one of Father's friends' kid's birthday. I never liked parties. I nodded towards my mother.

"Now, go and get changed." Father dismissed me from the room with a wave of his hand. I went back to my room and closed the door. I had a headache still. Great, just what I need.

I opened my wardrobe and tried to find something worth wearing to a party. I couldn't find anything. In the end, I settled for a pair of jeans, one of my Blessthefall shirts and a black hoodie. I got changed and then went back downstairs to put on my shoes. I went into the living room and was greeted by Father's usual disapproval.

"You are not going in that." He eyed me up and down. Mother sighed.

"Let him wear what he wants, John." She raised her hand to her temple.

"Fine, but if it causes any trouble, your whole wardrobe is being chucked." Father said, staring at me. "Anyway, we best get going." He got up and unlocked the door and mother grabbed her things. I followed them both out and got into the car.

Finally, I party that I actually liked. I couldn't help but smile as I walked into the house. My kind of music was blasting from the speakers in the living room, kids my age actually enjoying it. I had completely forgotten about my headache. Mother and Father were astonished and just a little bit shocked. They walked into the back garden, where the rest of the parents were. I went into the living room and was greeted with smiles. I couldn't believe it.

I sat on the sofa, since I had literally no idea what to do. A girl came up to me. She was wearing ripped jeans and a Black Veil Brides shirt. She had long, brown hair and heavy black make-up. She sat next to me and smiled. I couldn't help but notice that she was trying too hard. We got talking and by the time she went to her friends, I knew that she was called Beverley, she was a Sagittarius and I had her number. I hardly did anything.

About an hour into the party, I was really starting to enjoy myself. I felt accepted by people my own age for the first time in my life. I had gained about twenty phone numbers. I couldn't stop smiling.

That was when she walked in.
