Heaven Isn't As Nice As You'd Think

I woke to the sound of birds chirping outside. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. Five in the morning. Great. I got out of bed and started to get dressed. I turned to the bed with my shirt in my hands. She was there. It had really happened. I didn't know how to feel about it. I stood there, staring at her. After a while she began to stir. I turned away and looked out of my window. No-one was about, a typical Tuesday morning.

"You're awake?" She yawned. I nodded, not turning to face her. The sky was a pale grey. It was going to rain soon. I put my shirt on and heard her get up from the bed. I turned round to see her already dressed. She must've not taken them all off. It didn't really bother me.

"C'mon. Let's go downstairs." I headed towards the door. It was open. It struck me odd, I swore that I had closed it last night. I shrugged it off and went downstairs. Alexandria followed me like a lost puppy. I didn't remember much about the night before, except that it was quite loud. I was no longer pure, as some would say. I didn't care.

The house was silent. I went to the kitchen and saw that the bloodstain was completely gone, as if it had never been there in the first place. Yesterday, we hadn't even cleaned up a quarter of it. Alexandria walked past me.

"Looks like my daddy does love me after all!" She exclaimed in a childlike voice. She turned to me, a massive grin on her face. I stared at her, confused. "My daddy said that he had a surprise for me. He said that it would speed things up. He was right!" She ran to me and hugged me, pulling away after a couple of seconds. I was still really confused. She sighed. "Look, the only way I can explain is if you come and with me and meet my daddy, so, you coming?" Her voice had returned to it's normal tone. I nodded reluctantly. I didn't know who her father was, and judging by who sent her to 'keep an eye on me', I didn't really want to. For all I knew, it could've been the demon that possessed and killed my mother. She hugged me again and practically skipped into the hallway.

"Let's go then!" She was really excited about this. I followed her and put on my shoes. I grabbed my hoodie from the banister and slipped it around my shoulders. She was already out the door and at the end of the driveway by the time I locked the door. She took my hand and guided me to an abandoned house a few blocks away. She pulled me through the gate, her hand releasing mine halfway through. I squeezed though the gap, and emerged into a surprisingly well kept front garden. The door was boarded up and the windows were barred. I was about to ask why the garden was in such good condition when Alexandria interrupted me.

"It's so neat because my daddy likes to fool people into thinking that someone lives here. It's to stop squatters and other people from intruding." She said dismissively, unlocking the door. I stayed silent, not wanting to disturb her. "C'mon." She pushed the door open to reveal only darkness beyond it. To tell the truth, I was a bit scared of going into the darkness because...I was...am afraid of the dark. I have been since I was little. Alexandria grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the doorway. "What's wrong? You afraid of the dark or something?" She said it like I was a child. I looked from her to the floor. She rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on! You can't be afraid of the dark, you're too old for that." She got behind me and pushed me into the darkness, making me stumble.

I was only in darkness for a split second. I emerged onto a dry, cracked floor. Heat pulsed from underneath my feet. I knew where we were.

We were in Heaven.
