Forrest's POV,

{A/N, it's a flashback but Forrest thinks it's just another regular dream, the picture is what Forrest wore at WICKD}

"Good work Thomas."

My brother has always better than me at these test. He was the best out of all of us. Thomas has always been the favorite of Ava. He was the perfect boy in WICKED. I tried to not think about it too much as I returned to my own test.

My fingers continued to work out the problem on the monitor. I was so confident I had gotten the right answer, only for it to be marked as an incorrect answer. I let out an pissed off huff at the result I got. Ava must've seen it, she walked over to me and leaned over me.

"Your results have been dropping, Forrest," Ava spoke with a lace of disappointment in there. "You're not feeling intimidated, are you?"

I licked my lips, thinking over my words carefully, "no." My eyes were still on the screen as I tried to ignore the stares of disbelief from Ava. "No, Ms Paige."

Ava leaned in closer, "are you getting distracted again?"

The bitch knew exactly what she was talking about. Ava knew how to get under my skin. She knew I was around her finger now. From the corner of my eye, I could see her look over at the dirty blonde boy across, then back to me.

My back stiffened as her eyes landed back to me, "no," I was able to breathe out, "no, Ms Paige."

"Are you sure?"

All I could give was a small nod, swallowing my breath then mumbling a small, "yes."

Ava stood back up, her hands behind her back, "alright, Forrest." She stood behind me, then placed a hand on my shoulder, "but do remember, Forrest," her hand grasped onto a tight grip, "we are able to tell if your lying or not."

My body jolted when I opened my eyes. Heavy breaths dropped out of my mouth from the experience. It was just a dream, nothing big. I relaxed into the hammock as my breathing started to return to normal. My fingers rub away the sleep in my eyes.

Every month I get dreams like this one, almost exactly when a new greenie comes along. You'd think I'd get something else once a month, but no, I get dreams. I pull my flannel tighter around my body as I stared up at the empty sky.

——

Thomas's first test was as a track-hoe. He attended the garden, digging and hoeing at the dry dirt. I was continuing to pick out any fruit or vegetables that were ripe. Newt was tying any loose vines or fixing up anything in the vines that was needed.

"Has anyone tried climbing up the top?"

This wasn't the first time Thomas as tried suggesting ways to escape. He's been dropping suggestions to everyone he talks to today.

"Tried it," Newt replied. "The ivy doesn't go all the way to the top, and besides, where are you going to go there?"

"You could make bridges to go across," I suggest. Newt looked at me that spoke what he was thinking. "Sorry I spoke."

"Okay, how about the box? When the box comes back, we-"

"No, we've tried it. The box won't go back down with someone in it."

"Okay! Well, what if we-"

"No!" Newt shot him down again. "We've tried it alright! Twice!" Newt stopped his actions as he rested upon the post. "Alright trust me! Anything you think of, we've already tried. The only way out here is through the maze."Even with my standards of my bitchiness, Newt was being slightly too harsh on him. "Now, wanna make yourself useful?" Newt picked up an empty bucket, then chucked it to him, "go dig us up some more fertilizer."
