chapter 16
How dare you? And how could you? Will you only feel bad when they find out? If you could take it all back, would you?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Jade slammed the front door of her family home, running quickly to her sister's room. Of course, no one had seen Caroline since morning, so Jade went to their house to see if she was there. Damon and Alaric with the same task, only to Donovan's. The woman opened her sister's bedroom door with a flash of momentum as well as hope, although the latter one was quickly extinguished when she saw that the room was empty.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Jade began running around the house, checking every room and nook and cranny, each time having the same hope, each time losing it.
She wasn't home.
Jade started to curse under her breath and headed towards the door, but stopped when she saw her mother enter the house. The women began to look at each other with confusion━Jade at her mother because she was actually home when the sun was out, and Liz at her daughter, seeing her upset state.
No one spoke a word for a few seconds.
"What's going on?" Liz broke the silence first, pulling off her jacket and hanging it on a coat rack by the door.
Jade hesitated before responding. "Have you seen Carrie?" She asked casually, but in reality, she was tensed up like a stone from worry and anxiety.
Liz shook her head. "No, why?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Nothing, I just..." Jade trailed off, running her hand through her hair, eyes darting around the house. "Need to ask her something."
Yeah, if she's fucking alive. Or deranged.
"What? Maybe I can help." Liz offered, crossing her arms over her chest, a small, warm smile on her lips.
Jade huffed a laugh, her eyes fixed on the floor. "No, you can't." She shook her head, before clicking her tongue against her teeth. "Look, mum, I need to━" She took one step before her mother's voice stopped her.
"Jade?"
"What?"
"I'd rather if you..." Liz trailed off, trying to find the right words. "Stay away from Caroline, for a bit."
Jade blinked, instantly stunned. "What?" She breathed, pushing her scrunched face forward in confusion.
"Can you just do it?" Her mother asked, sighing.
Jade's confusion didn't falter. "Um, no? The fuck?" She shook her head, her face still formed into a grimace. "Why?"
"She's... going through something now. It's just for a bit." Liz tried to explain, pursing her lips.
