CHAPTER ONE

WRAP PARTY

OCTOBER 4, 2024

In your eyes

The light, the heat

I am complete

I see the doorway

To a thousand churches

The resolution

Of all the fruitless searches

Oh, I see the light and the heat

Oh, I wanna be that complete

Oh, I wanna touch the light, the heat I see in yo-

All of a sudden, Jacob's headphones are taken off his head.

He turns around, annoyed at whoever just interrupted one of his favorite songs.

"Hey, what the fu-"

It's Caleb, smiling at him.

"Bro, why you got headphones on? It's YOUR wrap party!"

Jacob just chuckles, "And it's YOUR music playlist!"

Caleb frowns, but an amusing one, "You don't like my music?"

"Not most of it, no. And I mean your PLAYLIST music, not your actual music. All two songs."

Caleb laughs, "Hey, music-making takes time!"

Jacob just laughs, shaking his head, "Hey, we filmed an entire movie together in two months, and you can't even make ONE new song?"

"That's what happens when you get a wife and then get her pregnant!"

Jacob sighs. He doesn't like to be reminded of Sarah.

"Yeah, yeah, right."

Caleb then grabs Jacob's shoulder, and points to the left of them,

"Look around, brother."

The cast and crew of 'The War to End all Wars', the movie based on the book that Jacob wrote, that stars Caleb as the lead character, just wrapped after two months of filming, and they rented out a local club. The entire cast and crew was dancing the night away.

Everyone except Jacob, who stood in the corner with headphones on.

"All these people are here for YOU, and have been here for you for the past two months. We've worked day and night to bring your story to life, this is a wrap party, and you're huddled in the corner like this with headphones? What gives?"

Jacob shrugs, "I'm not a people person. I honestly barely know any of these people. I'm not even the director or writer!"

Craig Mazin, known for HBO's Chernobyl and The Last of Us adaptation, wrote the script.

The Duffer Brothers, who were also the showrunners of, as Jacob calls it, 'That new 80's Netflix show that Caleb keeps talking about', were the directors.

And Caleb was the star.

Jacob was just on set everyday to make sure he agreed with everything they were doing.

"If anything, Caleb," Jacob claims, "YOU are the real star. And besides, let's face it... Once a movie based on a book comes out, the movie always gets more popular. Take Craig and The Last of Us. You think half the people that watch the show even know it's based on a video game? And I didn't find out Jurassic Park was based on a book until like, two years ago."
