JIMIN

Jimin leaned his head back on
the sofa and closed his eyes.

It'd been over three weeks
since hobi's call and he hadn't
been able to shake the heavy weight that had settled
around his heart.

Ari had come over to cheer
him up and now she was
talking about some guy
she'd met at a club the
night before.

He wanted to be excited for
her, to share her enthusiasm
but everything she said just reminded him of the man
who'd broken his heart.

While she gushed about Club Guy's square jaw and bright
blue eyes, his mind insisted
on giving him an image of
his boyfriend, instead.

Ex-boyfriend.

Jimin had always wondered
what hobi saw in him and
Hobi sure as shit had never
given him an answer to that.

He had felt lucky to be with
him and hobi had made it abundantly clear that
Jimin was right.

Now that they were done,
all of his insecurities had
woken up with a vengeance
and every one of them was clamoring inside his head,
eager and willing to tell him
why the sudden end of their relationship was all his fault.

He'd rather listen to Ari and
it took him a minute to realize she wasn't talking anymore.

He wasn't certain how long
it'd been since she'd stopped
but when he opened his eyes again, he was met with her expectant gaze.

He smiled feebly, hoping
she'd cut him some slack.

She'd definitely sounded
excited about Club Guy and
he really was happy for her.

He just needed a little more
time before he was ready
to be laughing and smiling
again.

Ari raised an eyebrow, as if
she could read his thoughts.

"You haven't heard a word
I've said, have you?"

"I have." Jimin lied.

"I just..." He exhaled
fidgeting a little as he
looked around the room.

"Hoseok?"

He nodded, knowing without having to look that her expression was a mixture of disappointment and pity.

She'd never liked hobi but she was always in his corner.

Her hand found his and she
gave it a squeeze.

"That bastard isn't worth
your time, you know."

"He was only holding you
back."

He did know.

Jimin had told himself the
same thing since he'd
received the call from hobi saying it was over.

It had come out of the blue
and had felt both devastating and impersonal, all at the
same time.

As if breaking up with him breaking his heart was
nothing more than another
"to do" item to be checked
off hobi's list for the day.

Even though Jimin's brain
told him that he was better
off without the other man in
his life, his heart hadn't
gotten the memo yet.

He could feel the tears welling
up as he finally made eye
contact with his best friend.

He didn't want to cry any
more but it just wasn't fair.

Jimin hadn't had a chance to
ask any questions or get any closure.

In the blink of an eye, he'd
been robbed of the sense of security he'd built with hobi
over the previous three years.
