ages 17 and 18
all the lee siblings were assembled in the king and queen's bedroom. felix usually hated when they would meet up to discuss things that he truly couldn't care less about. today was different though.
"the stellar ball is tomorrow, kids" the queen smiled softly. she sat down on her bed as she looked at felix, his little sister, heedo and his older brother, yoojun. "I expect everyone to have dates tonight, except you, heedo! you're a bit too young, I believe," she teased the little girl. being only seven, you could understand her reasoning.
yoojun nodded and asked to be excused. the queen gave him a kiss goodbye and watched him exit. felix stood frozen. it wasn't the idea of a date that scared him to no end, but rather who he wanted as said date.
he didn't see himself attending with anyone else, and he planned on expressing that to his mother.
"umma?"
"hm?" she replied over her shoulder. she began folding up a few quilts she had forgotten she left out.
"there's someone i want to bring as my date," he began.
"that's great, baby! why don't you go ahead and invite them then,"
he scratched his neck nervously. "see, I would like to, but I want to ask you first if you'd be ok with it..."
his mother dropped the fabric in between her fingers and turned around to look at her son. the expression on her face wasn't confused, more like, she could understand what was going on.
"uhuh, so what could the problem be then?"
felix bit his lip harshly, tasting the metallic flavor in his mouth.
"well, the person I'm thinking of is-"
"a boy?" the queen finished his sentence. felix looked up at her, shock written all over his face.
"how did yo-"
the queen giggled a bit, walking up to him and brushing his arm. "you're my son, felix. I know everything, even if it doesn't appear so,"
"so that's it? you're ok with it," felix asked, feeling tears well up in his eyes. the queen looked at him fondly and pulled him into a tight hug.
"if changbin makes you happy, then i'm happy," she whispered into his ear. she could feel how big he smiled against her dress.
eventually he let her go, racing out the room, down the hallway. she was proud of him.
felix stopped abruptly as he came face to face with the library door. he pushed it open only to stop in his tracks.
changbin was there, but he wasn't alone today. there was a boy, seemingly older, with dimples sat next to him. felix didn't recognize him. he hated that he didn't recognize him. changbin never brought up anyone else to him before.
who was this boy?
he was making changbin smile the same way he would. felix still believed that changbin only smiled when he was around him only. sure, it was childish to think that way, but he did. it hurt his feelings seeing the boy do the same with this stranger.
felix no longer wanted to ask changbin to the ball.
