A rush of guilt washes over me. In a way I feel like I betrayed her. Even though I didn't do anything wrong because we're not even dating. Let alone friends. So I don't go out of the cafeteria when I see her rushing out. Seeing her face made me want to go over there & hug her. & that's when I promised that I will try to protect her from girls like Avery & even my boys. The jocks, sometimes they just over do it & keep on picking on her. & hurt her, so I somehow think that what I just did added fuel to the fire.

* Valentina Pov *

By the time I'm done bawling my eyes out lunch is over & it's time to go to sixth period. Gym. Hopefully I don't have him this period. Don't want to go through that again. Good thing I have all of my stuff already so I just get off from the ground & start walking to the gymnasium.

Delia catches up to me while I'm about to enter through the double doors & has a worried look on her face. I tell her I'm fine & dress out so I could just get this day over with & go back home. Seeing my baby sister always cheered me up, she's lucky she doesn't have to go through this hell hole yet called school, so she doesn't have to lose that adorable smile of hers.

I dress out then Delia & I have to stand in a line, alphabetically. Good things no one else has a last name that starts with a 't.'Her last name is ' Touch ' it's Scottish. That's why she has natural red curly hair & has aquamarine blue eyes. She kinda looks like the girl from Brave. Merida I think her name is?

Anyways back to what we were doing. Delia & I were talking & waiting to be called & found out that we had to pick partners . As soon as we hear "partners" Delia & I had our grin we would always give each other. So it turns out we were gonna do tug - of - war. We're so gonna win this, if the guys keep checking us out. Oh the attention us girls can get.

So me & Delia get ready to go against let's see. Looks like Danny & oh boy. Just great, Declan. Funny how I'm the only one with a name that starts with a 'V'. Looks like this will be a challenge, I like being challenged.

Delia's anchor while I'm in front & on the other side Danny's anchor while Declan's in the front. Of course. He would pick the same spot as me. But either way I'm gonna win even if I have to tear my arm off, I don't like to lose. But maybe this'll be fun.

The whistle blows & I react quickly with Delia to pull our hardest with all our might. I can tell Declan's face is getting red & I do a little smirk, he sees me doing so & he takes that as his advantage to pull even harder. I almost lose my grip & fall on the wooden floor but I keep my ground.

I try to focus, come on Val you got this. I hear cheers roaring in the crowd, my classmates watching me. All the guys are on Declan's & Danny's side while all the girls are on Delia & I's side. I take one more huge tug & make Declan almost face plant the wooden floor, but his hands break his fall & he ends up looking like he's doing a push-up. "Damn" I say under my breath. Is it bad I wanted him to fall on his face? I get caught up in excitement that I throw the rope in the ground & run to Delia.

We do our one-of-a-kind handshake then we bump our hips together. All the girls run up to us & either give us a high-five or fist bump. I love this feeling. Of winning, it's not that I'm a sore loser it's just that I'm very competitive. & I just like to win. If I don't then it's okay theirs a next time. Delia & I give Danny & Declan high-fives. Even though I wanted to high-five Declan in the face. I'm just being a good sport.

* bell rings *

" Day 1 complete " Delia says like a robot. I look at her with a weird look. " You know you love me Valentina." "I do?" She gives me a that's not funny look so I put my arm around her shoulder. "Oh yeah, of course how could I ever not love someone as wonderful as you" "that's more like it." We both giggle & walk with each other home. Besides her mom is like my mom & my mom is like her mom. What's the worst that can happen?

We get to her house & she puts her keys on the counter. "Mom, I'm homeee!" But no one answers. She looks kind of confused, so just in case her mom went somewhere she went to look at the refrigerator. It reads ' I'll be back before 10:00, love you honey & hope you had a good first day at school. & yes Valentina can sleepover if she wants' after she reads it I smile because my second mother knows me so well that she knows I would want to sleepover & well Delia on the other hand. She looks embarrassed.

She blushes & throws the note away. I know how she feels my mom used to baby me all the time & calls me honey & even comment of pictures of me when I would be on Facebook. Oh mothers & their undying love. Gotta love it. At least while it lasts because sometimes every once in awhile you'll probably miss it when it's gone.

Delia & I watch 'Click' & we laugh so hard we almost pee our pants. I look at Delia & she's laughing so hard theirs tears trailing down her cheeks. I smile because seeing her like this, I miss it. & hopefully their will be more moments like these to come. The front door unlocks & Delia's mom comes in. But theirs someone standing behind her, who is that?

I go to Delia's mom & she steps away so as of right now I'm looking at him. It's been so long, too long the memories of him & I come back In my mind & I don't hesitate. I bury my head in his chest & he has his big smile of his & hugs me back. I can't believe after all this time he's finally back, I can't hold in my tears so I just let it out. Tears of happiness.
