~ A Bit Mistaken ~

"Wake up sissy, wake up!" I feel a small, soft cold hand shaking my arm. Agh, I don't want to wake up, weekends go by too fast. I squint to see the small figure beside me, my baby sister. I lay up & she lifts her arms up, guessing she wants to go on my bed. So I pick her up & lay her right beside me, "I'm not sissy you silly goose." She looks at me, kinda scared. Then I bring my arms behind my back & in front of her eye vision. "I'm the tickle monster!" Then she throws her back against the bed & starts to giggle loudly. I tickle her for at least three minutes straight & time passes by quickly.

I look at my clock at the side of my bedside table, six thirty! Crap! I fall out of bed then go to my drawer picking out an outfit. I end up picking out my 'normal is boring' black tank, my black beanie that says 'bad hair day', & my black and white striped high waisted shorts. For my shoes I just put on my black glittery vans.

I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth then use mouth wash so my breath smells & tastes extra minty fresh. Then I put a little eyeliner on the bottom of my eyelid with some mascara on my eyelashes to top it off. I brush my hair, then putting some gel in it to stop the puffiness & in 10 minutes it goes hard & doesn't feel damp anymore.

I put my beanie back on & go downstairs. Greeted by my family, "Good morning mom!" Then kiss her cheek, "yum, whatcha cooking?" She looks at me, "bacon & sunny side up eggs your favorite." Then she slides the plate to me, now done with the dish.

I eat fast as the speed of light then thank her for the food & go back upstairs to brush my teeth once more & gargle some Listerine to make it better. I grab my bike almost heading out the door, "Val! Your not gonna give Sofie a kiss or hug goodbye?" Then I run to my baby sister "by munchkin! Be good to mommy kay?" Then play with her hair, "yes sissy, love you." I give her a quick hug then go out the door with my bike, now checking my phone it's six-fifty. Not good, better get going. Then I put my phone back in my satchel & head on off on my bike.

I get to the school grounds as soon as the first bell rings & lock my bike at the bike rack. I start speed walking to my class, hoping not to get there late. About to get to my class I unexpectantly hear a loud roar from the fire alarm, blaring in my ears. I put my hands over my ears, its way too early in the morning to have a fire drill. Then my class comes rushing out, with my teacher in the front. "Valentina! Follow the class okay! Don't split up no matter what! Stay right behind me, all of you!"

I get a little worried & want to throw up because of how nervous I am. But I do as I'm told & follow the class, a guy coming beside me. "I thought you were probably not gonna come to school today." He whispers next to my ear while looking at me. I turn my face towards the guy, "um do I know you?" He looks taken aback & I raise my eyebrow. "Valentina it's me, Alec. Don't act like you don't know me just because of what almost happened." Then he walks to the front of the line, leaving me behind stunned.

I walk slowly still thinking, stunned from his appearance. He didn't have his glasses & didn't have a beanie on. He could literally be Dylan O' Brien's twin. Look alikes as a matter of fact.

He looks so different, not that he looked bad with his glasses but whoa. Who knew some guys could look good both ways? I put my hands in my back pockets then face the front. The whole class is standing in a long line. We end up going outside, then our teacher calls attendance.

We go back inside & I'm in art class? Well whatever, better then math. We start working on our sketches then music starts. The teacher actually has a pretty good taste, now thinking about it. A song by Coldplay comes on, Paradise. Whenever I hear this song I'm completely at ease & feel like I really am in paradise. I start humming when the intercom comes on, the schools principal starts talking. "Hello teachers and students we need to make a quick and urgent announcement. So put your tv's on channel eight please. Right now as I speak." I gulp, having a bad feeling in my stomach again.

The teacher turns on the tv & turns it on channel eight. We wait to see what happens and the our schools principal turns around in his chair into the camera. Looking into the camera,"Students.Teachers. We have to tell you something, something bad is coming. We can be in danger." Some people in the class gasp & still has their eyes glued on the screen. "At the moment the whole school is under code red. So at this time teachers please lock the doors, close your window blinds, whatever you can do to make you and your class more safe."

The teacher gets up quickly grabs the key & locks the door while shutting the blinds. The whole classroom is pretty dark now, leaving no light. "The whole school grounds is closed & nobody is allowed outside in the hallways. Especially not out on the campus. We've already called the police. But until then, hide.

No matter what don't stay in the open, go to the corner of the classroom where no one can see you." He tightens up his tie a little, "I know I'm not allowed or supposed to say this but god bless you all & hopefully we'll all get through this together safely. Principal Warner out."

I blink, theirs a possibility that I or any of us in the classroom can get hurt. We don't even know if they have weapons. We all go to the right corner of the classroom where theirs no windows. I feel too close to people so when the teachers not looking I go into a closet. It's pretty big, & doesn't show any of the outside.

Theirs not even windows that you can see. So I turn around then sit on the ground, put my arms around my knees & the top of my head on top of my knees. I hear a soft click of a door but just ignore it.

The person sits by me, "We're going to be okay. It's okay Val. All we need to do is be quiet & everything will go according to plan." I turn my head & it's Alec, the new Alec with no glasses. "You don't know that.. You can't be sure of anything. At any moment anything can happen. Look what happened last time a person broke into a school. A elementary school at that, people can be so sick."

I feel arms around me & look to my side, into Alec's yellow, greenish beautiful orbs. "No matter what, nothing will happen to you Val. I'll protect you, okay?" Then I nod my head, hoping he will.

He lets go & clears his throat, "about Friday.." Then I look at him "I'm sorry" we both say at the same time. Then we both look at each other raising an eyebrow. "I should be the one apologizing, I misjudged the situation. It was a misunderstanding & a stupid mistake. I'm really sorry Val, it won't happen again."

The intercom comes back on, "teachers & students the police have come. Everything is under control. School can go on now, normally throughout the day. Thank you for your cooperation." After the announcement is over I get up & walk out the art closet.

Another class is over & I go walking to my locker, still thinking about Alec's and my conversation. A stupid mistake? I put my stuff in my locker & walk on over to the cafeteria. I couldn't become anymore of a wreck than what I already am. I definitely don't have my appetite anymore for lunch. Still thinking back to what he said.. It was a misunderstanding.
