time has brought your heart to me

Druig's POV

He knew he probably should have left when he had the chance. You had made Eros promise to portal him out if it got too dangerous. The plan hadn't worked, because of him. But he couldn't explain why he had to stay. Not even to himself. He just knew he couldn't leave you, as if every fiber in his body fought against the notion.

He had tried to stay out of the way, knowing it would distract you if he were in more danger. But in the end, it hadn't mattered. The Deviant flew at him before he knew it, knocking him to the ground. He gasped in pain, his head hitting the sand hard. He heard you scream his name before you landed in front of him, letting Ghaur bite into you instead. Saving him. Again.

He didn't have his memories. He didn't remember your past with him. But seeing you hurt like that, hearing your cry, something inside him broke. As if his very soul was screaming out at him. His hand clutched his heart as a red hotness erupted within him.

You had pushed the Deviant away from you, but as you fell to your knees, he felt himself pull away from the Earth, his eyes golden as the gold Eternal strings surrounded him.

——

"I'm Y/N."

"Druig."

——

"I have fallen for you, Y/N."

"When?"

"Since the first day I saw you."

"Me too."

——

"You know nothing," he spat at you, the anger filling him. How cruel fate was, bringing you to him like this. Here but not. "What did you think when you came out here? I'd see her face and suddenly be moved to do whatever you all wanted? Well, I don't care. Because you are not her. What are you doing here anyway? What can you even do? I looked inside your head. You are an art curator. And you let them convince you to come here and get involved in this? You let them convince you they needed you?"

"Because you need her," you said softly.

"What did you say?" He tensed. How did you know that? He remembered the warm night in Babylon when he had first said those words to you. He had meant them every day since then.

"You need her," you repeated. "I don't know why Ajak hid what she did from all of you. But I believe in this. I believe your voice in my head saying you need her. I may not be her. I may not be able to use her powers. Hell, I might not even have her powers. But I'm here because I believe I'm needed here."

He wanted to tell you that he didn't want you here, not like this. He knew it would be dangerous. He knew you'd do anything to protect the humans. The problem was right now, without your powers, you couldn't protect yourself. And he'd be damned if he lost you again. But you didn't give him the chance, continuing to yell at him.

——

You were passed out in a cot in Druig's hut. He'd carried you here once the Deviants had gone after your fire display. He didn't want to admit that it had terrified him, seeing you conjure the fire like that, especially when you didn't have your memories. He wasn't afraid of you, but he was afraid for you. You'd never used that much fire before. What if you didn't wake up?

"Druig, you should rest," Sersei said kindly.

"I'm not leaving her," he said simply.

"Be sensible," she said. "There's nothing you can do right now."
