CHAPTER FIVE:
The lake and the cold water
"Where are we going?" I ask Gilbert, pushing aside the branch of a tree in front of me, so as not to hit myself.
He said that we are going to take a break from studying, not that we are going to explore the forests. Maybe he wants to kill me and bury me here. Is it too out of place for a young lady to think of such a thing? Probably.
Do I care? Of course not.
"It's a surprise." He smiles and continues to walk in front of me.
"Usually I like surprises, but something tells me I won't like this one."
"You'll like it." He stops walking and waits for me, putting his hands in his pants pockets.
"I'm not going to like it."
"You'll like it." He repeats.
"I'm not go-" I trip over a branch, and Gilbert's hands reach around my waist, preventing me from falling.
"Be careful, miss, the forest is full of dangerous paths." He says amused, clearly laughing at me. I hate that branch with all my heart. It make me look stupid!
"Very funny, Blythe." I roll my eyes and free myself from his arms. I had a strange feeling when he put his hands around my waist and I didn't like it.
"Would you like help walking, miss?" He asks with a big smile on his lips, extending his hand for me to take it.
"I'm going to beat you with that branch." I say and he starts laughing heartily.
_-_-_-_
"We've arrived!" A big smile appeared on his face, looking at the wonderful lake in front of us. "Do you like it?"
I move next to him, admiring the view. The lake is large, surrounded by trees, bushes and flowers. The late autumn sun is reflected in the water of the lake, making it look beautiful golden. I approach its edge, leaning down to touch the water. It is cold, not surprising, considering that the cold season is approaching.
"So you like it." I hear Gilbert's voice again and I get up, looking at him.
"How can I not like it?"
"Well, you said you wouldn't like my surprise."
I open my mouth to say something and close it back. He's right, that's what I said. I turn my gaze to the lake again, not wanting to prove him right. Analyzing the place, I see a swing tied to a tree. No way. I quickly go to the swing, putting myself on it, starting to swing gently.
"What is this doing here?" I turn my gaze to Gilbert, who is smiling.
"My father and I did it, we used to come here often to fish before he got sick." He explains and comes to me, putting his hands on my back. "Hold on to the strings." He says and starts pushing me, making the swing pick up speed.
"Gilbert!" I scream with fear, but also happiness at the same time. "I'm going to fall!" I yell when he pushes me one more time.
"If you hold on tight you won't fall." He says, stepping aside when the swing picked up too much speed to be able to sit behind me.
I start to laugh, getting used to the speed the swing picked up, looking at the lake in front of me.
I love the adrenaline that I have at this moment, It makes me forget everything. Exactly what I needed. Today I had a full day at school, full of additional homework that Mr. Phillips wanted me to do, to know exactly what level I am at with my knowledge. At home, I helped my mother to cook something, not having time to relax before going to Gilbert for math lessons. In short, I thought I was going to explode, and this place where Blythe brought me helped me not to.
When the swing stops, I turn to Gilbert to watch him take off his coat.
"What the hell are you doing? Put it back, it's cold."
"No, I have a better idea." He grins and starts running towards the lake, jumping into the water.
Okay, he's definitely not sane.
I get up from the swing and run to the edge of the lake, looking after him in the water.
"Blythe?" I shout, not seeing him.
I breathe a sigh of relief when I see him coming to the surface, wiping the water from his eyes.
"You are not sane." I say, leaning over the edge of the lake.
"I don't know what you're talking about, it's refreshing." He swims to me with a smile on his face.
"It's cold." I say, touching the water again with my fingers.
"It's refreshing."
"You're going to catch a cold."
"I have good immunity."
I roll my eyes, looking at him as he swims in the cold water of the lake as if the water is heated and its summer.
"What are you doing?" I ask confused when I see him approaching me, extending his hands to me. "Don't you dare do what I think you're going to do!" I warn him, getting an evil grin from him.
Oh no..
Before I can say anything, Gilbert pulls me into the water. I start struggling in the cold water, trying to grab him, not knowing how to swim. When I finally find him, I put my hands around his neck, rising to the surface.
"When we get back to the shore, I will kill you, Blythe!" I take a big breath of air, trying to wipe the water from my eyes.
He just laughs, continuing to swim, keeping us both afloat.
"Hey, swim alone." He says, trying to get me off him, only that I tighten my grip, not wanting to move.
"I would swim alone if I knew how. Now take me to the shore before I drown you with my hands." The smile disappears from his face, a guilty expression appears on his face.
"Sorry, I didn't know you couldn't swim, I thought dad took you fishing with him."
"Yes, Blythe, fishing, not swimming among fish." I roll my eyes.
He chuckles and starts swimming towards the shore, taking me by the waist, lifting me up and putting me on the shore. As soon as my body comes out of the water, the cold air enters under my folds, making me shiver uncontrollably.
"Take the coat." Blythe motions to his coat, which is lying on the floor. I take it without hesitation, not wanting to freeze to death.
"We have to go back before we catch a cold." I say and get up from the floor when he comes out of the water.
"Agree."He comes to me and takes the coat off my shoulders.
"What are you doing?" I ask as he puts half of his coat over his shoulders, then pulls me closer to him and puts the other half on my shoulders. "You just didn't think I was going to freeze while you had my coat." He says, putting his hand on my shoulders, making sure we're close enough to be covered by the coat.
"What a gentleman." I say sarcastically, starting to walk, pulling him after me.
"Shut up, I know you secretly like it." He says and I immediately turn to face him.
"I do not like."
"You like it." He smiles and I feel like slapping him.
How shameless for him to think that I like it when he is so close to me. I do not like it. It makes my body feel way to hot and I feel like I'm going to pass out with him so close. How can I like something like this?
"I don't like it!"
"You like it, because you blush."
"It's from the cold."
"Yes, as you say, Milady." He says, not believing me.
Oh my God, I'm going to kill him one day.
