'Wonder' actress, Cassie Anderson, comes out!

"I'm a lesbian. There, I said it." The actress wrote in an Instagram post after queerbaiting accusations were thrown at her.

'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' star Cassie Anderson comes out as lesbian after viewers of the hit Disney+ show accused her of queerbaiting.

In an Instagram post with a black photo, the actress wrote: "I'm a lesbian. There, I said it. I hope this stops people from saying I shouldn't play a character I love. Thanks."

The comments were flooded with support for the actress with friends and co-stars sending their love to the girl. Anderson had been getting hate for queerbaiting or benefiting from appearing as queer without claiming the community explicitly. That was followed after people brought up her previous roles where she was 'straight'. A person wrote, "Her past roles didn't get too much attention so now she wants to play a lesbian?"

Fans were quick to come to her defense, saying that it was wrong to assume someone's sexuality based on a role and that the actress had always been a vocal supporter of the community. After the post, they continued to pour out their support. A fan tweeted, "It's disgusting that people forced her to come out in the guise of queer support. She's an actor. Playing straight roles shouldn't equal to being straight in real life. I hope Cassie is okay."

Another wrote: "I'm sorry you were forced to do something you weren't ready for. We love you, Cassie. I hope Olivia is there to comfort her <3"

Anderson plays Allie Reed-Adams, an East High junior who has a long-time crush on her friend, Nini, played by Olivia Rodrigo, as both girls sort out their feelings while dealing with the chaos of their upcoming musical production.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series aired in November 8 and is currently releasing its final few episodes on Disney+. The series follows a group of theater enthusiasts as they work their way into staging their own production of the hit musical trilogy, High School Musical.
