The staredown continued as Carly waited for Sam to share what she had been wanting to tell her. Carly didn't have a clue that Sam was into her even with the hints that Sam was dropping. She was hoping that it wasn't anything bad. She didn't want any more drama.

"Earth to Sam," said Carly who was wondering if Sam was ever going to speak. "What do you need to tell me?"

Sam took a deep breath. She couldn't prolong this any further. She had to let it out and go for it. Whatever happens afterward happens.

"Carly, I'm in lo–"

"Hey, girls!" shouted Griffin who was walking towards them. "Carly, I was wondering where you went. Saw you two from the balcony and figured I'd come down. Just in time for the sunrise, huh?"

Sam felt all the energy from her body evaporate when she heard Griffin's voice. It was as if her bones turned to jello. Her posture transformed from stiff to limp. She fell back onto the sand with her arms spread and stared into the sky. Carly gave her a weird look and then turned her head towards Griffin.

"Oh, hey," said Carly, who was still clearly bitter from Griffin's behavior last night. He reached the girls and sat next to Carly. He leaned over and whispered to Carly, "I'm sorry for being a jerk last night, I love you." He then planted a kiss on her cheek. The whisper was loud enough for Sam to hear. Carly perked up. She looked at Griffin and tried not to smile, but she couldn't hold it in. She accepted his apology just like that.

"Thanks, babe, it's alright, I love you too."

Sam wanted to rip her hair out of her scalp. Every time she got the courage to tell Carly she loved her, something intervened. Being that it was Griffin made it worse. She wasn't going to let him barge in and ruin her moment without some retaliation.

"You're lucky Carly is too nice of a person to tell you that you're a jerk," snapped Sam who was still laying on her back.

"I'm sorry?" said Griffin who was startled by Sam's attempt to attack him.

"Sam!" yelped Carly. "Don't talk to my boyfriend like that!"

"Well it's not right that he was annoyed with you for not letting him in your pants!" retaliated Sam as she mustered the strength to sit up. "If you're not going to stick up for yourself I will. You shouldn't let him off the hook that easy."

"Carly, it's alright," Griffin chimed in. "I was a jerk last night. I deserve it. Sam's not wrong. I didn't think you would be telling Sam about my screw-up already, but I guess I shouldn't mess up if I don't want you venting to your best friend."

Both girls were silent. The sun was fully risen at this point. Griffin attempted to break the awkward tension.

"C'mon girls, let's go to breakfast," said Griffin as he stood up and put both his hands out for them to grab onto. Carly grabbed his hand and he pulled her up. Sam stared at his hand and didn't grab it. "Sam, I'm going to need you to come with us," continued Griffin with a growing smile. "I need you to come along so that you can keep me in line if you feel I'm not being nice enough to Carly," he joked. Carly guy a small chuckle and covered her mouth. Griffin's charm was working on Sam. She felt her anger tone down. While she was VERY annoyed at his poor timing, she could at least appreciate that he was on her side. She grabbed his hand and was pulled up.

"Alright, now Carly, give Sam a big hug and tell her you appreciate how much she cares about you."

The girls both laughed and embraced each other for a hug. "I appreciate you, Sam," said Carly while still laughing.

The hug did the trick for Sam. She was feeling much better in an instant from Carly's affection. "I guess today wasn't meant to be the day I tell Carly Shay I love her," she thought to herself.
