"Hey," said Sam in a low tone as the recipient of her call picked up.

"Oh...my...God," said Sam's twin sister, Melanie, in a shocked tone. "Samantha!"

Melanie was Sam's identical twin sister. Although they looked alike, they could not be more different. Melanie got straight A's which got her into a fancy boarding school, she came off as extremely sweet and nice, and was much more feminine than Sam. Sam did not like her because they were complete opposites. But given the recent events, Sam needed a girl to lean on. Melanie was that girl. A few weeks had passed since Carly and Sam had their "talk" and things were going well, but Sam was feeling down on herself. She was upset when Carly seemed relieved after Sam lied and said she had no feelings for her.

"It's Sam," grunted Sam. "You know I hate when you call me Samantha."

"Oh my sweet sister Samantha, you never call me!" yelped Melanie, completely disregarding Sam's hatred for being called her full name. "I'm so happy right now!"

"I knew this was a mistake," said Sam as she rolled her eyes. "I'm hanging up."

"No! Please!" Melanie begged. "I miss you!"

"Okay, calm down."

"Don't get me wrong," began Melanie, "I'm happy you called, but it's... surprising."

"I need some...advice," said Sam while sucking up her pride.

"Of course! With what?"

"I have feelings for someone and I don't think they like me back."

"Well, who is it?"

Sam paused. She wondered how Melanie would take the news. Would she judge her? Make fun of her? Would she think this is another one of her pranks?

"It's...Car-, Carly," said Sam in a shaky voice.

Melanie was quite on the other line. Nothing was said for a few moments. Then, she erupted. "That is so great! You picked a good one! I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were into girls, but this is great!"

Sam felt relieved. She was smiling while holding the phone up to her ear. She couldn't remember the last time she connected with her sister like this. "Thanks," she began. "But the issue is that Carly doesn't like me like that."

"Well, how do you know?"

"Because she got the sense that I may be into her and she asked me if I did," said Sam who was now laying in her bed and throwing a tennis ball up in the air and catching it. "I lied and told her I didn't and she seemed relieved."

"Why didn't you tell her the truth, Samantha?" replied Melanie who was preparing some fruit in her kitchen with the phone between her head and shoulder.

"SAM, IT'S SAM!"

"Okay! Sorry, SAM!" replied Melanie in a sassy tone. "Why didn't you tell her?"

"I don't know, I was nervous and the moment didn't feel right and-"

"You have to tell her, you need to get it off your chest."

"But," said Sam as she started to get choked up, "but what if she doesn't feel the same?"

"Aw, Saman-, Sam, it's okay!" responded Melanie who was getting emotional hearing her twin upset. "If she doesn't feel the same, you need to hear it from her. If she doesn't like you like that, you need closure to move on."

"I guess that's...true."

"You should tell her sooner rather than later, Samantha," said Melanie who realized she call her twin by her full name again. "Sorry, Sam. It seems like this has been bothering you for a while."

"It has. I don't know what I'm going to do if she says no."

"You'll be okay, I promise," said Melanie as she tried to console Sam.

Sam stopped tossing the tennis ball to herself and sat up straight. She felt comfortable with Melanie for the first time in her life. Sam felt like she actually had a sister. She was the sole reason for their strained relationship and she was now realizing how good it feels to have another girl besides Carly to talk with. She wished Melanie could be with her in person.

"Do you think that maybe," Sam began while biting her lip, "you could come back home for a few days?"

"Oh...my...goodness!" Melanie screamed so loud that Sam had to pull the phone away from her ear. "Yes, yes, and yes! I will book a flight right now. I'll get there on Friday. How's that sound?"

"Sounds good to me," said Sam with a smile.

"Hey, Sam,"

"Yes?"

"I love you!"

"Don't push it," said Sam in an uninterested tone.

"No, I want to hear you say it back."

"Melanie," groaned Sam as she fell back on her bed. "I'm not saying it!"

"Tell your sister you love her!"

"No!"

"Well, I guess I'll just stay home then," replied Melanie nonchalantly.

"Uhhhh, you have to make this so difficult."

"I'm waiting," said Melanie who was pleased with herself.

"Iloveyou," Sam said so quickly and quietly that it was unintelligible.

"I'm sorry, what was that?"

"I love you, Melanie!" barked Sam. "There are you happy now?"

Melanie was beaming on the other end of the phone. "See you on Friday, sis!"
