The New Friend Problem #1

I pulled a unicorn comb through my silky, black hair and starred in the mirror on my dressing table at my silky, caramel face. "Jasmina, you get down here this instant! You need breakfast before you head to school! Brydee will be WAITING!" My mother called screamed from the kitchen, where she was obviously constructing suitable packed lunches from the scrapings in the fridge- tomorrow would be the first time she would have time to go shopping in the last week. "Jasmina!" She called one last time, before giving up, arming my little brother with his lunch and heading out the door to drive him to school.

Great, now I could walk!

I pulled on my scruffy uniform, and walked across the neatly-paved street to Brydee's house. After pressing the bell I could hear about twenty kids screaming- her brothers. "Jace!" She exclaimed, after pulling open the heavy door drastically. She looked up and down the road and frowned. "Your mum's not taking us?" She questioned, and I shook my head calmly, before cheerily exclaiming: "Not today!"

"Hmm..." She seemed perplexed.

"Is that a problem?"

"What? No! Um...I just...wondered."

There was definitely something wrong, so I pulled Brydee out of her house and whispered "What is it?" in her tiny ear.

"Just...Elliot might be out again today, you know...and...she beat me at swim training again, last night..." She admitted. I was definitely confused.

"And?"

"And she likes to...rub it in my face...literally."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

I just shrugged, and carried on bouncing down the road. (BTW, I was in a good mood today- spoiler alert!)

"I'll protect you." That comment seemed to leave Brydee really taken aback.

"Really? Thanks."

"Don't worry, isn't that what unicorns are made for?"

Aww, isn't Jace nice? No? Yes? We don't know, we haven't gotten to know her properly yet. And Elliot seems...interesting...don't worry, she will have a nicer, sweeter more sensitive side soon enough. Just you wait!
