Subject One Only Wants A Simple Life

Chapter Six

    Ezra run faster than lightning that even the rain couldn't touch them. Kairo is wrapped in many layers of blankets, still shaking because of the fever. The nearest city that Ezra located is five days away from here but she doesn't have that time to spare. Kairo needs a doctor now.

    She used all her powers to get there more faster that even though all her systems are screaming error for overusing it, she doesn't care. Kairo is sick because of her, so she needs to take responsibility even if she will get the worse consequences. 

     Only a few days have past when she took Kairo under her protection and this happened. Kairo is her first living being she promised to protect but she already failed. This isn't an excuse to her carelessness but a lesson to her.

     Five minutes later they arrived at the city. It's 2:27 in the morning and not many shop are open. Ezra didn't look around and go the nearest beast clinic. She barged in with a bang and set Kairo to the first bed she found.

    "What's going on!?! Who are you!?!" A man shouted, coming out from another door. Ezra knows that he is the doctor "Heal him" she said "Sorry but we're close right now. Come back later when it's day time" the man said while yawning.

    "Heal him" Ezra repeated firmly, the man stared at her and sigh. He couldn't clearly see her face because there are no light.

      "Where's the patient?" He ask and Ezra pointed at Kairo who started whimpering in pain.

     Upon seeing Kairo's situation, the man became serious and get his medicine kit. He then check Kairo's condition and give him some medicine to ease the fever and the pain.

     "He will be better soon. Don't let him get wet in the rain again. The rains now are sometimes toxic not only us but also to them" the doctor said not looking at Ezra. "Thanks for your help, I'll keep it in mind" she said seriously 'this will never happen again' she thought.

    When the doctor finally looked at Ezra, he paused for a moment. The woman have silver hair that is almost white and a cold blue grey eyes.

       "Your the legendary hero right? Ezra's your name?" He ask and Ezra nodded looking at Kairo who finally stopped shaking and peacefully sleeping, feeling relieved.

    The doctor saw it all and thought that the hero who should be emotionless is showing concern and relief at the fox beast.

    "I'm Doctor Nic, but you can call me Nic hero. Don't worry about him, get some rest. You look like you run from your house to here" Nic said jokingly but Ezra keep quiet because it's true. Nic saw it and became speechless 'she really cares for him' he thought

    When he is about to leave to find a blanket to give to Ezra, the said woman spoke "don't call me hero, call me Ezra" she said "Okay Ezra" Nic said.

     He get the blanket and gave it to Ezra. Ezra thanked him but didn't plan on using it, she will not sleep. She will watch over Kairo until he gets better. Nic saw her intention and didn't go back to sleep but instead make a two cup of coffee for both of them. It will be morning soon anyway, he will sacrifice his precious sleep just this once.
