13. The "Friend" Date

I had the best time with Sharon and Maria the other day. It was very much needed, as it was long overdue. They helped me find some new hiking stuff, I got some new outfits and a few smut books to tide me over. All in all it was a great day. I needed to remember to thank Tony again for getting them the day off from S.H.I.E.L.D.

The rest of the week went by in a blur, and before I knew it, Saturday was here and it was time for my "friend" date with Bucky to go hiking. Thankfully because the compound was located in Upstate New York, there were plenty of places to go hiking/exploring. I was secretly hoping that we would stumble upon a waterfall, even if it was a small one. I had seen Steve, Sam, and Bucky come out the woods behind the compound two nights ago. The three of them would go for a run first thing in the morning before breakfast to kick off their day; and then in the evenings, they would usually go for a walk. I wonder if Bucky had scoped it out to see if it would be acceptable for our hiking adventure.

After finding out that I was pregnant Tony allowed Dashi, my golden retriever, to live with me at the compound; then because Steve was like my brother, he would always end up taking her along with him for his evening walks, which eventually ended up including Sam and Bucky. I gather Bucky having some sort of routine outside of missions was the team therapist talking, but he didn't look like he minded one bit. He enjoyed having his best friend back and making a new one out of Sam, even if they did argue like they were children most of the time they were around one another.

While I can admit that I am very nervous for today's "friend" date, I am also really excited. I haven't done anything like this with a male since Jamie was still around. Don't get me wrong, Steve and the other guys on the team would take me out from time to time but it was never anything romantic. It was always to try and pull me out of a depression episode. My depression after the miscarriage was really bad, but living here at the compound helped tremendously, because I know that without a shadow of a doubt that if I had lived off-site that things would have been so much worse.

I know Bucky wants to give me time and space, and I respect that. In fact, it actually makes me fall a little harder for him. Being a man from the 40s has its perks. There aren't many men left like him, Steve, and Jamie left in the world.

I was in the foyer by the front door to the compound waiting on Bucky, when Papa and Nat walked by in their gear for what I can only assume is a last minute mission. Before Papa and Nat walked out, they each gave me a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek before walking off to the weapons room and told me to enjoy my day and take lots of pictures to show them later.

As soon as they were out of view, Bucky walked up with a dark backpack on, and a ball cap on his head.

"Hey there, doll. Ready to get going?" he asked with a smile threatening to make an appearance. I assume he might be nervous. Maybe it's been awhile since he's done anything like this with a female since before the war and since before HYDRA.

"Hey, Bucky. Yeah, I think so. Don't you even think about using your Super Soldier Serum advantages to get ahead of me." I said as I looked over and winked at him.

"What ever do you mean, Doll?" and he had that sexy shit-eating grin plastered across his face as he said it. I wonder how many ladies he had falling at his feet back in the 1940s when he and Steve were younger in their pre-serum days.

"Barnes, I'm serious. I haven't done this in awhile. Go easy on me." I pleaded playfully.

"Okay, doll. Anything for you."

I wish he'd do anything for me. To be his girl would be one of the best highlights of my life, even if we don't stay together. Something to look back on at the end of my life on my deathbed and think that it was some of the best time(s) of my life, being with him.
