"THAT DAMN pop quiz sure is hard!" Keiko was whining ceaselessly. She looked as if it was already the end of the world and slumped her head on her desk. "I didn't even know we have one today! Kobayashi-sensei is giving us a tough time!"
"That's why it's called pop quiz because it's a surprise," I told her in a matter-of-fact tone. "If you didn't study in advance, you ought to flunk the result."
Keiko craned her head to my side and pouted at me like a toddler. She continued to wail dramatically that her teensy voice was starting to irritate my eardrums. "Y/N-chan is so cruel! Are you really my friend???"
My eyeballs rolled. God, this girl was so damn annoying! "I'm just telling the obvious truth here," I deadpanned.
Hanemiya, who was sitting behind me, let out a light chuckle at our little squabbling. "Amamiya-san's right. If you review the night before, you'll definitely pass the quiz."
Keiko pushed herself up and turned her attention to him. "What's your score on our quiz today, Hanemiya-kun?" she asked.
With a small smile, Hanemiya held up his paper sheet and made a peace sign, revealing his score to us. Much to our astonishment, the guy got full marks!
Keiko was the most amazed between the two of us. "Oh, my god! You're incredible, Hanemiya-kun! You perfect the quiz just like Y/N-chan!"
He shrugged. "It's nothing, really. I only felt lucky to study the subject in advance," he stated humbly.
I discreetly stared at him for quite some time. His words somehow were contradicting him. Our math quiz today was all about basic trigonometry and the problems were relatively tricky to solve. Was it really just out of pure luck? Despite his delinquent appearance, he was actually pretty smarter compared to some people I knew of. However, it didn't change the fact that he still violated our school's dress code. I would reprimand him for his violation every now and then, but he was just as hardheaded as the other punks in this school. Geez.
"By the way, the Sports Fest will be in a few days, Y/N-chan. Are you planning to participate in the event?" asked Keiko. "Nishida-kun told me that you'll be one of the hosts."
"Normally, that would be the case. But I suddenly change my mind. I decided to join you guys on the upcoming battlefield."
After I overheard some annoying bitches belittling my athletic abilities the other day in the restroom, I had no other choice but to participate in the Sports Fest and help my groupmates win every game possible. I knew those brainless harlots were just envious and know nothing but to spread false rumors because I was dating a famous gang leader such as Sano Manjiro. And that I was close with a cool boy like Hanemiya.
