Ever feel like something is wrong? Maybe like you shouldn't be friends with someone, or be with someone? I'm generally a very happy person, but some things feel very wrong. It's like your trying to smash down a puzzle piece in the incorrect place, just more of a feeling than an action. I felt I was at my happiest. I had my best friend living with me, and the man of my dreams. What could go wrong?
_____
It was early in the day. A Sunday.
"Hey babe!" Gray says excitedly as he walks in my apartment.
"Hey", I kiss him on the cheek.
"Wanna go out tonight?"
I smile, "I would love too."
"Cool, I'll pick you up at 7."
I give him a quick kiss goodbye before he heads out.
Gray and I have been dating for four years, since freshman year of high school. His parents died when he was young. I never met them, but we've been friends for what seems like forever. I was his everything, and I'm pretty sure he was mine.
"Hey", my best friend, Vanessa says with a smile.
Vanessa practically lived with me. Her parents don't want anything to do with her so she had to live with her abusive aunt. She ran away one day, and I told her to come live with me and that my brother didn't mind.
Nessa and I grew up together. Her parents knew my parents, and all that jazz. She was the sister I never had. People thought we kind of looked alike too. I mean, we never saw it.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going out?" I say like she should already know this.
"Do you think he's planning something? This is the fourth date he's took you on in two weeks."
I tilt my head, thinking about it, "Probably not."
I look in my closet, "what should I wear?"
"Hmm. That one pink short length dress. It looks great on you."I think about it.
"Okay what shoes?"
She studies my rainbow socks that are on my feet," Those black wedges you wore like twice.""Hmm..okay."
She smiles at me.
I leave my hair straight, and do my makeup. Makeup takes most of my time.
"He's gonna be late", she says laying on her bed.
We always bet if Gray would be late or not. I'd win most the time, but she won sometimes. He would only be late because of traffic, and it's not rush hour. It was 6:58.
"Nah. He'll be here right on time."
Vanessa got a little sassy about it too, "Wanna bet?"
"Yes. Yes I do. I bet $25. You?"
"You're laying low girl, $26."
She smiles a little evilly like.
We laugh harder than we wanted too.
Then there's a knock.
I gasp sarcastically, "Well he's right on time!" "Damn it..." She whispered.
I opened our door. It wasn't past time yet. I have to be in my own apartment by 10:30. Brother's rules, even though I'm 21 I still obey.
"Hi", Gray looks up at me with a red rose in his hand. He was so handsome in his dark grey tux.
"Hi", I blush a little.
"Are you ready?"
I smile and hold his hand, "Well yea. Or else I would still be in the bathroom getting dressed." He laughs.
"Okay, okay. You guys go. You're infecting me with this love sick shit", Vanessa jokes.
I wave goodbye and shut the door.
"Where are we going?" I ask a little excited as I got into his red sports car.
"Somewhere."
Our song came on when he turned on the car. Gray and I just started to sing out of tune, "DONT BLAME IT ON ME! DONT BLAME IT MEEEE! JUST BLAME IT ON THE NIIGHHT- IGGHHT!"
We finally arrive at this fancy-ish place. I gasp.
"Omg! N & L's?!"
Their place is so good, but it's highly priced too. It was a resturant in the city, and it was connected to other stores. It reminded me a lot of Dallas, Texas. My brother took me there a few times.
He smiles again, "Let's go princess."
I get out of the car and start to walk to the door.
I look down.
I look down when I'm nervous, or I talk a lot. We walk right in front of the door when Gray grabs my torso and kisses me.
I smile between his lips, "What was that for?" He says nothing, but walks me to a table. I feel like this is going to be a good night.
"What would you guys like to drink?" The waitress asks us.
I look at Gray. God, he was so cute with his brown hair and his green eyes.
He looks at me, "Ladies first."
I look up at the waitress, "Um yes. I would like an unsweet tea please."
"Okay. For you sir?"
"Just a water."
She smiles, "Alright. They will be out shortly."
I sat my purse right by me on the booth. I look up at him and blush.
I look at her name tag, "Thank you, Liz."
She looks at me, brown hair, brown eyes, and a little tan. Hmm. Pretty.
"It's my pleasure ma'm."
I glance at the other side of the restaurant. Then I really look. There's this guy whose staring at me, and then looks away after he realizes I was looking back. He was hot, like really hot.
I look at Gray, "Am I attractive?"
I shut my mouth after hearing what I just said.
"Why would you ask that?"
He laughs at me. I shrug my shoulders.
Liz came back to give us our drinks and to take our orders, "May I take your order?"
"A house salad, please", I say looking at the guy who was staring at me.
"May I have the steak, medium rare, with a side of mash potatoes?" Says Gray.
This guy was like checking me out but he has a date.! You could tell, the girl was flirtinh with him. Ugh forget it. I know Gray was talking, but I couldn't focus.
I was staring into space until Gray reached for my hand. I look at him. Straight dead in the eye, but in a good way.
"You okay?" He asks curiously.
I smile weakly, "Yea, I'm great. Are you?"
He kisses my hand, "Yup."
I remember the first time we went out. Vanessa introduced us. Right afterwards, like no joke, we went to eat pizza. It was a good first date. It was a lot of fun. I miss that.
Right then, our food came.
Liz says placing the two plates in front of us, "Would you guys like anything else?"
Gray looks at me and I nod my head no, "No thank you."
"Alright, you guys enjoy", she says smiling.
"Hey this is pretty good. You should eat your salad before she comes back and asks if we want dessert."
I smile and glance back where the extremely hot stalker guy was staring at me.
"Christy? Are you sure you're okay?"
He was one of the few people that could call me Christy. Otherwise, it bothers me. Not because I don't like it, I was just named after my mom, and she passed and I never got over it.
I quickly look at him, "Yea. I really am okay." I smile. Well fake smile.
Gray got up, and got down on one knee. It caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting this. We just turned 18. We're still seniors! In high school! My heart starting pounding. I gasp.
"Christina Noel Black, will you marry me?"
I felt like it was hours before I answered. People started clapping for us. It was suppose to be a happy moment, and I was freaking out.
"Yes! Yes, I will!" I get out of the booth and he stands up and kisses me.
We talked until we waiter for the check. I kept messing with my ring. It was beautiful. It was so pretty and simple, but I couldn't help but doubt. I always thought about the bad. I couldn't ever help it. Liz comes by and hands Gray the check and walks away so he can pay. He looks at the bill and pays quickly.
"I'm going to head to the restroom. I'll meet you in the car", I say getting up.
"Okay", he says kissing my forehead.
I went to go spying on where that guy went, because he left not long ago, and he made me distracted. I wouldn't be distracted if he didn't keep staring at me. There's just something about him, and I don't know what. I feel bad for lying to Gray, but I felt like I needed to do this.
