MarthaThe morning of the 1st of September, the day we leave for Hogwarts, is completely chaotic within the Aurum household, and I, was always in the heart of all the mess. This day is approached by all the Aurum children with nervousness and extreme excitement. It's safe to say we all terribly miss our friends and are anxious for the new school year.
Amid all the morning noise and bustling, I was woken up from my well deserved sleep by two hands poking my arm and face. I open my eyes, resisting the urge to shove the intruders off me and curse them into oblivion. I shook off sleep, pulled myself into a sitting position, noticing that my little brother, Merthin, is sitting on my bed and my twin brother, Nate, is smiling down at me a few inches away from my face.
"What the hell are you idiots doing in my room?" I brushed my eyes while glaring at the two boys.
Merthin grinned at me. "We thought we'd wake you up. It's a lot more joyful than with Lizzie's method." He looked oddly out of place wearing Christmas pyjama bottoms with a purple Puddlemere United jersey.
I cocked an eyebrow at him. "You do know it's September, right?" He rolled his eyes at me and Nate looked at him with a puzzled expression probably noticing our brother's outfit for the first time.
Aspen poked her head inside my room, she looked lavish for someone who just woke up. Her long dirty blonde hair was pulled into a messy bun, her face covered in cleansing cream and her body covered in a pink towel. I think it's important to mention how Aspen is a morning person, I know, it's a psychotic trait.
She waved at me and eyed her twin brother disapprovingly. "Yeah, if only wearing Christmas pants was the worst fashion crime he is committing..." Merthin flipped her off, she blew him a kiss and continued down the corridor.
"I think she's talking about the purple mixed with the green and red."
Merthin slumped his shoulders and rolled his eyes at Nate. Then he sighed and left my room, mumbling under his breath. "This family makes me wanna curse people." Nate and I exchanged knowing looks and burst out laughing.
Lizzie, my older sister, emerged from her room, ready to ensure none of us lingered under the covers. She's always been firm yet caring. She's the most responsible sibling in the family, always a rule follower, which makes her and Merthin clash aggressively. Lizzie smiled at me and then with the flick of her wand ushered Nate out of my room. He complained all the way back to his room as an invisible string of magic pulled him through the corridor.
The aroma of breakfast was enough for my stomach to grumble. Downstairs, Mom danced around the kitchen, flipping pancakes, buttering bread, and stirring a pot of oatmeal with the flick of her wand. The baby of the family, Noah, only 5 years old, was probably tackling his cereal, most likely making a mess of the dining table.
I hurried to take a quick shower, it's one of my morning habits, and yes, I'm not a morning person. After getting dressed adorning the bold Gryffindor red and using a curling iron on my straight hair, I hurried out of the bathroom and dug through my walking-closet to see if there were any last-minute packing to be done. Inside it, I found my favourite Quidditch Jersey, that used to belong to Jake. My older brother, Jake, is 22 , he is a professional Quidditch player. He plays for Puddlemere United, thus Merthin's tacky pyjama choice.
Making my bed in a hurry, closing the door to my very messy closet and grabbing my nearly forgotten Astronomy book from my desk, I rush out my bedroom. Nate appeared from behind me and enveloped his arm around my shoulders. We heard laughter echoing from the bathroom, as the youngest twins, Merthin and Aspen, aged 15, engage in a playful toothpaste fight. My sister's clean look replaced by a dishevelled one, but she didn't look mad, just happy. Nate and I exchanged amused glances – even amid the chaos, laughter found its way.
