Becoming Me - Chapter Five

I was really excited that Derek invited me and my friends to lunch but I really didn't know what to expect when I talked to Rory about it. I tried to hurry up and find my friends so they could come eat lunch with me and then I saw a flash of blond hair.

"Kelsey!" I yelled to get her attention, because she was walking awfully fast.

"Hey girl! I was trying to rush and get to our table so we could have a seat. You know how everyone tried to sit with us yesterday," she said quickly while trying to drag me along with her to our lunch table.

"Yeah about that, Derek invit---" I was explaining the invitation to Kelsey when she cut me off.

"Are you serious? I didn't want to believe Rory but I think he was right," Kelsey said with a hurt look on her face.

"Believe what? I was just telling you that Derek invited us to eat lunch with him and his friends outside today." Now I was curious as to what Rory was "right" about.

"Ohhhhh never mind then haha! Forget what I was saying. Let's go find Rory so we can have lunch with your man!" Kelsey said with a huge smile on her face, looking relieved.

"Seriously, what's up?" I couldn't just drop what she said, she looked to hurt as she said it for me to just leave it alone.

"Okay well, Rory was upset this morning because he thinks that if you start dating Derek you will just forget about us an--" but she was cut off by the late bell so she couldn't finish her thought.

"We'll talk about this later," I said seriously.

"Yeah seriously, your man is going to think we stood him up," Kelsey said laughing and I couldn't help but laugh along with her.

Lunch was great but it felt weird because Rory never showed up. I was hurt to say the least. I had texted him and told him to meet us outside for lunch with Derek and he never replied. I was trying to show him that just because I was friends with Derek didn't mean our friendship was going to change.

"Who was that cute guy with the glasses?" Kelsey asked as we were going back inside from lunch. I almost gagged. I know she wasn't talking about Albert. She couldn't have been, he's such a jerk.

"Are you talking about Albert, Derek's older brother? He's a jerk, trust me." I know I shouldn't tell my friends who to crush on but come on, Albert, really?

"Well he's a hot jerk, hehe!" Kelsey said giggling.

"Oh no! You did not just hehe at Albert?! He's not even hot, well maybe in a nerdy, mean way." She couldn't be serious about this because he was just not okay. He was my arch-nemesis!

"I sure did! You think you could set me up with him and we could go on double dates!" Kelsey said excitedly. But before I could even dignify that with a response, I saw Rory flash by, going up the stairs.

"Hold on. I think I just saw Rory!" I said as I started to run after him. I ran and ran until I finally caught up with him and I grabbed his arm and turned him around.

"Hey! What's your problem...oh it's you." Rory said with a look of disgust on his face.

"Don't you dare give me that look! I have done nothing to you. Kel told me about how you felt about Derek and I can assure you that, that won't happen." I couldn't lose Rory as a friend, there was no one else like him and I couldn't lose all those years of friendship.

"I'm sorry about how I've been acting but I honestly just couldn't stand the thought of losing you to some other guy." He said with some warmth in his voice.

"You won't ever lose me, I love you and you are my best friend. Nothing will ever change that!" and with that Rory smiled but it didn't quite meet his eyes.

"Alright, come on! We don't want to be late for class...again!" He said with a laugh.

At the end of the school day, I headed outside and realized that I didn't know where to meet Derek and Albert to go home. After looking around the student parking lot for ten minutes I finally found them and Albert didn't seem too happy.

"Where were you whore? We have places to be, we don't have time to be waiting for you!" Albert said evilly.

"Excuse me? Whore? Who do you think you are? I couldn't find you guys, that's why I was late. We never agreed on a place to meet so I was just aimlessly looking around for your car. You know what? I don't have to explain myself to you. I can walk home." I said furiously walking off. I was so hurt by Albert's attack but what hurt the most was that Derek didn't defend me, he just sat there looking between the three of us.

After about five minutes of walking I hear somebody calling my name.

"Danielle, wait up! Slow down! I've been trying to catch up with you for like fifteen minutes!" Derek said, while gasping for air.

"Actually, I've only been walking for five minutes so that is literally impossible and you must be ridiculously out of shape." I said with an attitude looking at his sweaty figure. I was still mad about him not defending me.

"First of all, I am in shape. Second of all what is your problem, I know what Derek said was awful but that was him, not me." Derek said sounding offended.

"My problem is, that I thought you should have defended me. He called me a whore. That was completely unnecessary and you said nothing."

"What was I supposed to say, 'She's not a whore but I honestly don't know because I've only known her for 2 days,' I mean that sounds kind of sketchy," He said while laughing, obviously trying to lighten the mood. I tried not to smile but I couldn't help it, that did sound really stupid.

"Okay, okay. I get what you're saying. Now let's pick up some speed. We have a long journey ahead of us," I said jokingly. But who would have known that we did have a long journey to come and it had only just begun.

Oh my gosh! I actually updated! It's been like a whole year since I even looked at my story but I saw that someone was commenting on it, and I realized I had to add more to this story. I love it too much not to finish. SOOOOO I hope you enjoy and tell all your friends about this story!
