Becoming Me - Chapter 2
The car ride to school got really boring so I decided to listen to some Justin Bieber. My music was turned all the way up, and I was blocking out the whole world. I didn't even realize that we were at the horrendous school until I heard banging on the window. The beating on the window was my lifelong best friend Kelsey. I looked at her like, "What the hell?" and got out of the car to see her.
"Hey girlfriend! I missed you so much!" she said excitedly, running into my arms for a hug.
"Kel, it's only been 2 weeks since we've seen each other. You were just at the beach," I said bursting her bubble. So I wouldn't seem so harsh I added, "Actually it has been a while, you look different now. Way more mature," I said seriously.
"Well it's not my fault you look like a senior, I had to age up," she said while laughing. When she said that I finally took in her outfit and she did look really mature. Her shoulder-length, dirty blonde hair was in loose curls, she had on a dress similar to mine, and she was wearing at least five-inch heels. But Kel, had been right I always looked more mature than my age, and I think that was why my brother wanted me to change so badly. He knew that guys were going to hit on me.
After our little conversation, we decided to depart from my brother, and we went to look for our guy best friend, Rory. No, this is not going to be all cliche, I DO NOT like Rory we just grew up together living next door to each other. I'm not going to say that Rory isn't attractive, because if I did that would be a lie. He's super hot, but I could never see myself dating someone like him, I just know him too well.
"Dani, Kel! I missed you guys. Your brother really didn't make you change? You look like a junior at least. Too hot to be hanging out with us," Rory said jokingly. He could get any girl he wanted to, with his dark hair and beautiful light blue eyes. There were no if, ands, or buts about it, Rory was hot.
We all checked our schedules and realized that we only shared a few classes together. Kel, and I had P.E, Spanish, and Geometry (curse being smart) together. Rory, and I had Spanish, English, and History together. The one class I had alone was home economics but I was okay with that, because I loved to cook, and sew. We all had lunch together which was a relief.
Home EC was my first class so I ventured off into the huge building alone. After about five minutes of wondering around for my class, the bell rang and the halls emptied. I kept aimlessly walking until I ran into this guy.
"Hey do you know where room 308 is? I've been lost for fifteen minutes...this school is just so huge, and I'm a freshman so it's my first day...Oh my goodness I'm just rambling. I am so sorry," I said looking up after being embarrassed. The guy was so hot, and I had just made a fool of myself in front of him. He was perfection, blonde hair, blue eyes and just so hot.
"Oh it's okay. Your class is just up the stairs, down the long hallway, and on the right. I'm Derek Baker by the way," he said casually, neglecting the fact of me just embarrassing myself. I blushed, really deep red, said thank you and turned to walk away feeling really embarrassed.
"Wait! Stop, you never told me your name," he said matter-of-factually with a dazzling smile. I slowly turned around, red as a tomato and said,
"Danielle...Danielle Evans that's my name," I said like I wasn't even sure that was my own name. As I was turning around to finally get to class, Derek called out to me again.
"I'll see you around Danielle," he said with a wink and then walked away quickly to his destination.
After my encounter with Derek, I found my class rather quickly but I didn't go right in. I mean who wants to be the center of attention on the first day, I was 20 minutes late and everyone would be staring at me. I put on a brave face, and knocked on the door. This nerdy looking boy answered the door.
"Who are you? And why are you so late?" the nerdy boy said nasally.
"I'm Danielle and I got lost, I'm a freshman and this school is pretty huge..." I trailed off quickly getting irritated. Where was the teacher, and why was he the one questioning me?
"Albert, who is at the door? Let them come in, and go to your seat!" She said sternly. From my schedule I'd learned that her name was Mrs. Clark and Josh said she was the nicest teacher in school.
"Hi, sweetheart. What's your name?" Mrs. Clark said so kindly. She calmed my nerves and now I wasn't as nervous as I was before.
"I'm Danielle Evans, and I am so sorry that I'm late. I got really lost. This school is huge," I said nervously. I didn't want someone as nice as her to hate me, because I missed half the class period on the first day.
"It's okay sweetie, it happens to about everybody that goes here at least once. Just try to get to school earlier tomorrow so you can find your classes ahead of time. Now can you please go sit beside Zach, Zach raise your hand," she said while handing me a packet full of information. I whispered a, "thank you," and went to the sit beside the boy who was raising his hand. This Zach guy looked about my age and he had dark brown hair, and it was the flippy kind of hair like Justin Bieber used to have. But when I sat down beside him, he looked mad at the world like somebody had just stole from his grandma.
"Hi, Zach is it? I'm Dani," I said very politely. But I didn't get a polite response at all, he looked at me like I was crazy and then went back to reading his packet.
After that awkward period next to that Zach guy, all my classes had at least one of my best friends in it. When lunch came around me and my friends sat together at this table by ourselves at lunch but then people kept asking if they could sit by us. I really wanted to just spend my lunch with my friends but I couldn't be rude. One of the girls that came over was really pretty and she was really nice. At the end of lunch she asked to hangout sometime.
"Hey, we have to hangout sometime! Here let me see your phone, text me so we can hangout," she said while putting her number into my phone. Her name was Hilary.
At the end of the day, I realized that high school might not be too bad, as long as I don't get lost. But I was kind of disappointed, because I hadn't seen Derek since we ran into each other.
At my brothers car after school I waited for him, but he just didn't show up. As I was walking back to the building, I got a text from him.
"Srry gt football practice. dave is picking u up, again im srry," Josh texted me. I was pissed, Dave was our step dad. He was the reason why my parents got a divorce in the first place. I hated Dave, and he knew it.
"No! Im waiting for u to get done w/ practice," I demanded, texting my brother back. Just as I sent the text my evil step dad pulled up.
"Dani, get in the car," Dave said, after realizing I was walking towards the football field.
"First of all, don't you ever call me 'Dani' only people I like can call me that. Second of all, I'm waiting for my brother," I hissed at him. I hated this man with a passion, because he ruined my life, my brother's life, and especially my dad's life.
"Danielle, he's gonna be in practice for hours, just please get in the car," he tried to say sternly. There was no way that I was going to get in that car with him.
"I'll walk home then, it's only a couple of miles," and with that he drove off. To be honest I really didn't want to walk but I refused to get in a car with that man.
As I was taking my long walk home, a car honked at me. I turned around and noticed who it was, and smiled...
