the front door slammed behind her.

aria, who was seated beside jake, looked up.

instantly, she recognized the look on her friends face. the same look she always had when she was guilty or upset about something.

"are you okay?" aria questioned, turning her head. "is this because of the party?"

"how'd you know?" hartley paced throughout the room.

"that's the only eventful thing that's happened today." aria reminded.

"anyways! i need your help. both of you. i promised amy that i'd tell my grandma that i didn't want a tea party, so i could go to amy's party instead. but then i told my grandma that i'd tell amy to cancel her party so i could go to the tea party." hartley ranted, staring at the floor.

"so, you're caught between making amy mad or making celia mad? have you considered facial reconstructive surgery?" jake suggested.

aria laughed, glancing over at jake.

this time, she didn't glare, or try to hold in her giggles. jake smiled at her.

"i know! you guys can come with me. that way you two can distract my grandma, so i can go to amy's party. i'll text every time we need to switch. are you in?" hartley questioned.
