also, just a quick clarification, in this story you and Matt are just best friends, but it blossoms into something more tehe

---------------------------------------------------------

"You're kidding, right? This is a joke?" Matt's face was pale, his expression looking like you had just told him you were diagnosed with a terminal illness or something.

You spoke with a quiet chuckle that came from shock at the boy's reaction. "Matt, why would I joke about this? This is like.. like my biggest dream ever is unfolding right in front of me!" You threw your hands in the air dramatically, the gleeful smile remaining on your face despite Matt's disappointing reaction.

You weren't stupid. Of course Matt, who has been your best friend since fifth grade, would find sadness in the fact that you were moving decades away for your dream college. Ultimately leaving him bestfriendless in LA. Despite this, you expected at least a grain of excitement from him considering you had been spewing about this dream school for the last three years and you had just received a full ride scholarship and acceptance letter in the mail two days ago.  This was big! Like... majorly huge! In two months you'd be flying off to the place you've been fantasizing about since forever and embarking on a new chapter of your career!

However, the news did not seem to settle well for the boy in front of you. He actually seemed to be feeling worse and worse as the information processed for him, his posture slumping and his face going even more white. His eyes fell into a daze as they drifted to the floor slowly, his fingers gripping the bottom hem of his shirt. As you watched his stature begin to sink, your hands fell back to your sides and you bit your bottom lip nervously. Was he truly not happy for you at all? You understood the sadness of the situation, and had already spent nights crying about it alone in your room as Taylor Swift played in the background, but you stood surprised. Matt had always been the most supportive person in your life, immediately hyping up anything that you wanted to try out or succeeded at. It made you happy to know he'd always be by your side, no matter what you decided to dapple around in. Even if this school brought the two of you apart, you thought he would have put the bitterness aside and congratulated you at first to show support.

His next move proved you completely wrong, though.

His eyes met your's again, filled with twenty different emotions. He seemed angry, sad, confused, but the biggest emotion he portrayed was hurt. He appeared to be crushed. You noticed his eyes were watering and his breath had picked up speed. He reached up and scratched the back of his neck with his shaky hand, clearing his throat and trying to remain cool. "I um.. You.. you were accepted?.." He moved his hand to his face, pinching his nose bridge and rubbing his forehead. He huffed and closed his eyes, the adams apple on his neck bobbing as he swallowed anxiously.

"Matt.." Your voice was almost a question, confusion lacing your facial features as you watched him. You took a step toward him, and his body responded by taking a step back. He started to turn for the staircase that led up to his bedroom. He cleared his throat again, his efforts to remain calm now becoming desperate.

"I'm.. look I'm sorry, just give me a second, I.. Hold on.." He spoke with a monotone voice, now walking up the stairs. You couldn't help but feel a little hurt as you watched your best friend walk away after you just told him your dream had came true. The person you were most excited to tell had by far the worst reaction yet. Great.

Instinct took over and you were suddenly behind him on the staircase, stopping him halfway up by gently grabbing his hand. "Matt, wait. I.. what's wrong? I thought you'd be happy for me?" You looked up at him as he turned around and peered down at you, tears threatening to escape his eyes.
