Lyam is stranded and is picked up by a fishing boat and brought to China. He is met by a woman Talia. She sees something in him and decides to teach him.

He leaves China and heads home. On his way he is kidnapped by Nyssa Al Ghul. He is taken to Ra's Al Ghul and tortured until he gives the location of Talia. He is betrothed to Nyssa by her father. He escapes and flees home.
