Carina had woken up from her nap feeling slightly disoriented, but she soon remembered where she was and why she was there. She stroked her belly, trying to figure out how she felt about being pregnant. She always knew that she maybe wanted kids if she found the right person, but not anytime soon, maybe in like ten years. It struck her then, she had found someone to build a family with, it had been ten years and they were pregnant with kid number two. Wow, everything had gone the way she had planned, well except for the travelling part but she supposed that was because she had found Maya. She had to be the reason that she stayed in Seattle after Andrea. She figured she must really have loved Maya because there were few people she could see herself doing that for. Maya loved her too, it was easy to see.
Her train of thought was interrupted by a tall blonde. Who came in holding a cell phone in her hand.
"I found this and charged it for you. How are you feeling?" She plopped down in the chair next to her bed and handed Carina the phone.
"Grazie, I am so sorry, but I don't know who you are." She said sadly.
"Oh, no big deal. My name is Teddy. I work here too, I am married to Owen." Carina's eyes got big for a second before she pulled herself together.
"Don't worry, I know about the two of you, Amelia snitched while I was in labour." She smiled brightly and Carina relaxed a little, but stayed quiet.
"How are you feeling? How is Maya and Frankie?"
"It feels like a dream, and not the good kind. Maya is very kind, we get along well, but I feel like she is expecting me to remember and be normal and I can't."
"Has she said anything?" Teddy wondered.
"No, of course not. She had been nothing but patient and loving."
"Then I don't think you should worry."
"What do you mean?" Finding it easy to talk to this person.
"I don't think Maya would ever expect more from you than you are able to give. It is funny because she is very impatient in so many ways, wanting everything to happen all at once, you know. And then there is you, she would literally put her whole life on hold for you, she will take things at your pace, you just have to tell her what you need."
"Wow," Carina said, she couldn't imagine someone loving her that much.
"Yeah, you know the day that Andrew died." Teddy paused, gauging her reaction, but Carina seemed to want her to continue so she did.
"She had the most important inspection of her captaincy, but she left because you guys needed help."
"What happened that day? No one told me." Carina asked. So Teddy told her everything she knew about what happened from the case to the medical stuff.
"He died a hero." Carina said with tears in her eyes.
"Absolutely." Teddy smiled and took her hand. Just then her pager went off and she left the room. Carina was once again alone with her thoughts. That was until she remembered the phone in her hand, she looked at the picture on her lock screen and smiled. It was a picture of Maya and she assumed Frankie. Maya was holding her upside down by her feet and they both had the biggest smiles.
Luckily she remembered the code Maya told her earlier and was immediately met with a bunch of texts once she unlocked it. Some were from people she recognized but most names she didn't. There was another picture on her homescreen, it was her and Maya dressed in white. It looked like their wedding photo. She smiled at the intensity of which they were looking at each other. She opened the message app, intending to write Maya, "Hey, I'm not dead." But she figured that a phone call might be better, she wanted to make an effort. Maya picked up on the second ring.
