Find me again

chapter 7

"Mommy, you 'wake?" Maya quickly sat up in bed and her eyes landed on her daughter who was standing in the doorway to her bedroom, with her favourite stuffie clutched in a tight grasp. She opened her arms, and Frankie immediately ran to the side of the bed so Maya would pick her up. She laid back down with her daughter on her chest, and checked her phone. She didn't really remember falling asleep, she had ended up talking to Carina most of the night. She smiled to herself, it had been a while since they had stayed up half the night talking to each other on the phone, but Maya took that as a good sign. Carina must have suddenly realised she wanted to know everything about their life together, because she had asked for story after story and Maya was more than happy to relieve the good times they had together.

"How did you sleep, piccolina?" Maya asked and stroked the wild brown curls on top of Frankie's head.

"Good, mommy. You?" She smiled brightly.

"Very good, thank you for asking, ma'am." Maya said with a mock posh voice, she knew her daughter wouldn't understand the joke, but she thought it was funny.

"Do you want to come with me to visit mamma today?" She asked quietly.

"No more wait?" Her daughter looked at her sceptically.

"Well, mamma is still not feeling well, so we have to be careful. But she really wants to see you."

"I be careful." She said seriously and sold it with a firm nod.

"I know you can, why don't we get ready and then we can bring mamma breakfast and the cookies you made?" Maya laughed at Frankie who was already halfway off the bed before she had even finished her sentence.

"Wait for me, please." She laughed as she got out of bed and jogged after her crazy daughter.

"Okay, piccolina. Remember mommy isn't feeling well so we have to use inside voices and she might not feel good enough for a hug yet." Maya wasn't sure if that was an okay thing to say to a child, but she had to prepare her for the possibility of Carina not being comfortable with that kind of affection. "We will see okay? And please try to be good for me?" Frankie nodded before lifting both her hands, signalling that she wanted to be held. Maya managed to balance the food and drinks in one hand and pick up Frankie with the other. She also somehow managed to open the door to Carina's room.

"Shh, mamma is sleeping." Frankie said as soon as they got into the room. Maya looked at her a little funny, maybe she really understood more than Maya gave her credit for, because normally she would just wake Carina up with a loud "mamma".

"Hmm no just resting, piccolina." Carina said as she opened her eyes and sat up in bed.

"Wait, here." Maya said as she set down the food and drinks. "Let me help you." She managed to get the pillows and the bed in a comfortable position while Frankie was just hanging on her side. Carina had to admit that 'mommy Maya' was hot. She bopped Frankie's nose which made the toddler giggle.

"Hurt?" She asked.

"I am feeling much better now that you are here." Carina smiled and grabbed her foot. She looked up at Maya.

"Can I?" She hesitated. "Can I maybe hold her?" She had no reason to worry though, because Maya gave her the warmest smile.

"Of course you can," she placed Frankie in Carina's lap, and looked at their daughter, still smiling.

"Remember, piccolina. Gentle with mamma today." She reminded kindly.

"Lo so." She immediately snuggled into Carina, finding it a little difficult to get around her big belly.
