"So who is watching our kid again?" Carina was doing her makeup in the bathroom. Maya was sitting on the bed, content just watching her through the open bathroom door.

"Jack. Ehh, my ex-, whatever." Maya huffed, struggling to describe who he was to them. "Our friend." Maya said firmly and nodded once. "Frankie loves him, he's a goof."

"Okay." Carina smiled and put her mascara away. "And he's watched her before?" Carina bit her lip a little, Maya couldn't figure out why she seemed shy.

"Yeah, tons of times. He's amazing."

"Oh is he?" Carina's eyebrow arched and she made her way over to Maya, her nervous expression gone, replaced by a sly smile.

"I ehh-" Maya stuttered stupidly, it had been so long since Carina had teased her like this and Maya was scared of how much she should push back. It was date night and Maya desperately needed it to go well. She didn't want to risk Carina getting upset or angry with her. "He's no way near as amazing as you, my love." Carina rolled her eyes, but also straddled Maya's legs and the blonde felt confused by her actions.

"Maya, breathe." Carina said gently as she took a hold of Maya's face.

"Well, that's kind of hard when you're sitting on me." Maya quipped and Carina immediately lifted herself up, looking sorry.

"No no." Maya grabbed her hips and pulled her back. "Don't go."

"I am too heavy." Carina said matter of factly and Maya wanted to slap her own forehead.

"Baby, no. That's not what I meant." But Carina was still trying to squirm out of her lap. "Hey." Maya whispered. "You take my breath away, that's why."

Carina kissed her quickly and then pulled back again with a pout on her face. Maya was tempted to stroke her thumb on it, but she refrained. "This is hard." Carina whispered.

"What is?"

"Talking... Communication..."

"You're right, it is hard, but we're getting better, right?"

"I guess... I just feel like I'm supposed to know what you are thinking and I don't always... you always know what I'm thinking."

Maya almost laughed. "I just almost had a panic attack because I couldn't figure out what you were thinking."

"Huh?"

"And you somehow knew because you told me to breathe."

"You looked pale."

"Yeah. I didn't understand why you seemed shy and then flirty... I couldn't figure out what the mood was and it stressed me out because I'm trying so hard not to push you away."

"You're not going to push me away by not knowing what mood I am in, bambina."

"Okay, but why were you weird about Jack?"

"You do realise that for me this feels like leaving my daughter with a total stranger, right? I was worried and I wanted a hug, and it's fun teasing you too." She winked and Maya laughed.

"Alright so... Totally valid, but do you trust me to not leave her with someone who is not capable?"

"Yeah." Carina nodded. "Of course."

"And the rest will come eventually, my love... We just need to be patient. Communication hasn't ever been our strongest suit but as long as we are both aware of that and we both try our best I think we will be okay."

"Yeah, okay."

"And it means a lot to me that you're thinking about this and that you are here."

"Okay."
