{Two Months Later}
Hailee jolts awake, breathing heavily. The blanket that was wrapped around her, well draped on her had fallen off as she moves. Stiff from the sleeping position she had been laying in. But wasn't for long.
She leans up on the uncomfortable hospital couch in the room, placing her feet on the flood. The coldness of the tiles goes straight through her socks causing her to flinch and glance down. She shakes her head and places them back down before rubbing her eyes with the palm of her hands.
A low sigh escapes her lips as two knocks appear at the door. Instantly the girl perks up, in a way. She leans her body upright, dropping her hands from her face seeing Nurse Lucas Owens walk in with a small smile.
"Hey Hailee," Nurse Owens says, walking in with a clipboard. His eyes shift from Hailee's to Y/n who still lay unconscious, in a coma. No change in the past two months. "Still no change?"
The nurse walks over to a computer that sits beside the girl, where a majority of the machines are that she's hooked up too. He sets the clipboard down as Hailee watches him. It's the same routine every night at this time. Well morning. 4 am. Always the same nurses at certain times and days. Nurse Owens was Thursday-Saturday from 8p.m to 8 a.m. Nurse Lydia Montgomery was 8 am to 8p.m from Sunday-Tuesday. Then another nurse that covers Wednesday's when those two nurses happen to be off.
"Is there any way of telling when she'll wake up? It's been two months," Hailee whispers, her voice dry, tired. Nurse Owens checks the machines, shaking his head from side to side sadly.
"Unfortunately, no," Owens responds, gently. "But you should really eat something. That food has been sitting there for two days." Owens points to the small collapsible table beside the couch where a tray of food that consists of a sandwich, an applesauce and a water sits untouched. "You haven't ate unless that little kid is here."
Hailee nods and places her hand through her hair. "Right. Just can't get myself too."
"I don't want to have to hook you up to machines Hailee. Please try and eat, at least stay hydrated," Owens says, typing on the computer briefly then stepping back. His eyes trail over to Hailee who messes with her fingers. The feeling of lingering eyes causes her to nod slowly and look up at Owens. He nods and gives a small smile. "Her vitals are good. Everything seems normal. I'll be back at least one more time before shift change. Hang in there."
"Thanks Lucas." The nurse nods, a brief smile enters his lips before he exits the room. Hailee looks down at the ground for a second. A low sigh escaping her lips as she pushes herself up from the couch. The blanket falling off of her. She bends over slightly picking it up and placing it on the couch. She stretches, closing her eyes. Her mind running rapid with the thoughts she's had for the past two months since the accident. What if Y/n never wakes up?
Hailee stops stretching. Her hazel eyes trailing up from the ground to the person laying in the hospital bed. Slowly, she walks over and trails her eyes up and down Y/n's body, landing on her hand after a few seconds. Carefully the girl reaches forward, taking the girl's hand in her own and giving it a gentle squeeze. She bends down a bit and looks up at Y/n's face. The cuts and bruises having healed some. Almost completely gone by now. The bandage the girl once wore around her head from the head trauma was removed about a week ago. Y/n's hair growing longer and longer with each day that passes by. A small chuckle escapes Hailee's lips at the thought of Y/n seeing her hair that long.
"You'd hate your hair right now," Hailee whispers, tears forming. "I could see it now, see you looking in the mirror and saying 'Damn, who let it get like that?'" Hailee sinks her teeth into her bottom lip, flicking her eyes back and forth Y/n's closed ones. Tears slip down her cheeks and moves her head from side to side. "I miss you. I miss hearing your voice. I miss seeing your eyes. I miss your heart and your soul. I miss you so damn much Y/n. Please...Please wake up."
Hailee's eyes close. Her head drops. She keeps a hold of Y/n's hand. The only thing that she had right now. She could still feel Y/n. Holding her hand was the only comfort she really had this point.
For two months she's stayed at the hospital. Called off from work. The Dickinson cast and crew understood. Everyone did. The fans of both Hailee and Y/n knew that Y/n was in a serious accident having it been on the news and all-over social media the very next day it happened. Hailee looked at it all. Reading and watching everything. But all of it brought her to tears. All of it made her heart hurt with the pain of not knowing whether or not Y/n would wake up or be stuck like this forever.
Aunt May and Penny came every now and then. Aunt May more than Penny. Aunt May didn't like the idea of Penny seeing her older cousin in the position she was. It didn't look pleasant. It was a scary thing and filled you with scary thoughts. So as a mother she limited Penny's visits no matter how much the young girl bothered to see her older cousin she loved and adored like Y/n was their older sibling.
When they did come to visit, Hailee would step in the halls. Leave the two to have some alone time with Y/n, but the moment they left was the moment Hailee walked right back in. She was determined to stay. Worried about the fact that if Y/n did wake up and Hailee wasn't there, Y/n would wake up alone. She didn't want that. She wouldn't want that if she was in Y/n's position either.
A sniffle escapes as something lightly squeezes the girl's hand. Hailee pauses. Her body aches as her mind goes silent. Another light squeeze appears causing the girl to open her eyes to find her hand with Y/n's. She watches for a moment, not moving a muscle. That's when it happens again. The light squeeze from Y/n. Instantly the girl picks up her head and locks eyes with Y/n's half opened ones.
"Y/n..." Hailee breathes out, eyes wide, shocked. Tears slipping swiftly down her cheeks.
