play nice
"mom! i beat hyunjin in a race!" daehyun excitedly skips up to seulgi, breathing heavily as he points back to a panting hyunjin.
"give me a break, i'm as old as your mom." he jokes, sending a wink towards seulgi. daehyun playfully sticks his tongue out at hyunjin, earning a laugh from the two adults.
"why don't you keep playing, let's let hyunjin relax a little." seulgi suggest, pushing daehyun's sweaty hair off of his forehead. he nods, skipping back towards the playground. hyunjin plops down onto the bench, brushing a hand through his own sweaty black hair.
"he's a ball of energy." hyunjin chuckles, seulgi nodding in agreement.
"it's been a while since i've brought him here." she admits, hyunjin noticing the slight sadness in her voice.
"how come?" he asks, hoping he wasn't prying too much.
"i've been taking on a lot more projects at work." she tells him, not giving too much detail, but she didn't have to do hyunjin to figure out what she meant.
"he got any siblings?" hyunjin glances over at her, smiling as she starts to giggle at his question.
"definitely not." she answers. hyunjin decided to take advantage of the light mood she seemed to be in, he wanted to know more.
"his dad?" he asks cautiously, watching her reaction to the question. luckily, she didn't seem too upset, just pulling her lips into a tight smile as she shook her head.
"not in the picture." hyunjin nods, and he couldn't help but feel a little bit excited knowing she was single. "how about you? what's your life like?" she asks, feeling as if the conversation was revolving around her.
"pretty much just work. i don't have a kid, or a partner, my life seems kind of boring compared to yours." hyunjin chuckles.
"sounds relaxing if you ask me." she replies, keeping her eyes glued to daehyun as he climbed on the monkey bars. hyunjin could only imagine how exhausting it must be to be a single mother, especially at such a young age. "you have any younger siblings or anything?" she suddenly ask.
"nope." he tells her, shaking his head, admiring her side profile. seulgi felt his gaze on the side of her face, but she ignored it, smiling as she watched daehyun chasing another kid around the park.
"really? you seem really good with daehyun, i thought you'd have some experience." she finally turns to him, breath getting caught in her throat as she meets his piercing gaze. he notices her reaction, a small smile pulling at his lips.
"well he's a cute kid, he definitely gets that from you." hyunjin flirts. she scoffs playfully.
"please, he takes more after his dad." she waves dismissively at him. hyunjin shakes his head, disagreeing.
"he's definitely got your eyes and nose, he looks a lot like you." seulgi turns back towards the park, her eyes instantly finding daehyun as if it were some motherly instinct. but seulgi didn't see it, mostly because she didn't believe someone as adorable as her son could resemble someone like her in any way.
but hyunjin was right, daehyun definitely sported the same eye shape, and nose shape of his mother. even the way his hair laid across his head was similar to hers. they even had the same golden brown color to their eyes.
