JJ can't lie, despite being excited for the spa experience that was soon to take place for his team, he is actually feeling rather disappointed at the moment.
Having been away for several days before the video shooting, JJ hadn't seen Harry in person for about a week. It would be closer to two weeks by the time Harry finally comes back from Croatia, where JJ knew the is heading after the video shooting. And yet, over the phone, Harry hadn't seemed very enthusiastic.
As good as a time the expensive team had been having, a small part of JJ couldn't help but imagine the gleam in Harry's eyes if the younger was to be here with him too. The older is sure it showed, considering the looks Tobi and Ethan kept sending his way whenever he mentioned Harry's name, having done so many times already. He just couldn't help it. Harry's joy was such a freeing thing to witness.
With a sigh, JJ follows his mates down the hall, deciding to give Harry the benefit of the doubt. They had all seen the conditions of the other team's hotel room - JJ had a strong inkling that if it had been him on the other team, he wouldn't have even answered the phone, too busy marinating in his own foul mood.
Hours later, just when JJ is settling down, ready for bed, his phone rings. Josh is calling him, a look at his phone tells him.
"Hello," JJ answers the phone, speaking before Josh gets a chance. His tone is questioning, prompting an explanation for the sudden late night call.
"JJ?" It's not Josh's voice on the other side, but Harry's, for some reason. Previously sluggish, Harry's tone forces JJ to sit up straighter in bed. His back leans up against the headboard of the bed as his hand grips tighter at his phone, digging in to the palm of his hand. "JJ, are you there?"
Worried and having no clue what is going on, JJ hurries to answer. "I'm here, Harry, I'm here. Did you need anything, babe?"
Harry's voice is small, scared, and it leaves JJ terrified, his heart beating harder and faster than it should in his resting position.
"Y-your v-voice. Need-needed to hear your v-voice... J-," a hiccup, "J."
JJ's voice gets stuck in his throat, fortunately for only a few seconds. As soon as he can, JJ assures his boyfriend that he is there, he's listening, he just needs Harry to talk to him if he can.
"They- JJ they, THEY WERE EVERYWHERE!" As used to Harry's antics as he is, JJ isn't immune to the intensity of his loud noises; JJ pulls his phone away from his ear with a curse as soon as Harry's shouted words make it over the line. "I-I-I don't-"
"Harry can you- babe, can you please put Josh on the phone for me? Please?"
There's a small amount of hushed scuffling on the other end in response. JJ can hear Vik's voice in the background, though he can't quite make out what it is he's saying. He must not be very close to the phone, 'maybe he's standing in or near the bathroom', JJ thinks.
"You alright, JJ?" It's Josh's voice this time, but the sound of it doesn't put JJ at ease at all (it's not as effective at calming him as he had hoped it would be). Josh's words are huffed out with an uncomfortable laugh, indicating that something is seriously wrong. If JJ wasn't already panicked before, he definitely would be now.
As JJ answers a low effort, timid, "Yeah," he clambers out of his bed, heading straight down the corridor for Tobi's room, which is nearest to his. He doesn't bother knocking, startling Tobi as the other looks up from his phone at the commotion. JJ doesn't say a word, just signals for Tobi to follow him as he heads to Ethan's room, feeling on edge. Upon second thought, he informs Tobi to contact Simon and ask him to make his way over. This feels big. Big in a bad way.
