Will's Pov:
It had barely been 5 minutes and Will hated it. It was dark, cold, dirty and nothing like the clear outside he loved. And even though they brought flashlights, he still missed the sunlight.
"Ok," started Annabeth, snapping Will out of his thoughts. "We have only a few days before first autumn leaf and time travels different here so we need to hopefully be quick."
"But it said we come back empty handed anyway," pointed out Leo.
"You can't hold answers and knowledge in your hand. We're hoping we can get some answers. Now since we have no destination in mind, let's hope the maze can lead us to it," stated Maree, fiddling with the two necklaces on her neck.
"Alright then. Percy, Nico and Jason will walk up the front with me and Maree because we need to go through Greek monsters with Maree," explained Annabeth, practically dragging Nico from Will's side. Will shrugged and fell into step with Hazel, Piper and Frank. Leo and August brought up the rear.
It wasn't long before Hazel brought up a strange topic. "Do you like Nico," she whispered, low enough so the ones infront of them couldn't here.
"Uh..." Will's face was bright red. "I mean sure... I want us to be friends."
"But didn't you stick with him all of the battle with Gaia? And didn't you say you didn't want him to leave camp," asked Piper.
"Yeah, I did." Will had no idea where this was going.
"So you like Nico," said Piper, smiling.
Frank sighed. "They're talking about romantically."
"Oh." Will felt hot and red and he doubt he could hide his blush. "I'm just hoping we can be friends," he tried but even he couldn't believe his voice.
"Aww, you have a crush on him," squealed Hazel. "You should ask him out."
"What! no! He's homophobic!" cried Will. The others just blinked at him.
"Uh..." Frank started. "Nico’s not homophobic," finished Piper.
"What!?"
"Yeah... like me he had some trouble accepting the community but he's fine with it now, he just had to get some things straight," explained Hazel.
"What does that mean?" asked Will.
"It's not our place to say. I only figured it out because I'm Aphrodite's daughter," said Piper. "I just had to get in confirmed."
"Oh... kay."
The group continued walking in silence, following the others through the bending and dark, gloomy halls. They didn't make it far before running into a monster.
"Look," whispered Annabeth, pointing towards a figure who was curled up on the ground. "Do you want to try and fight it, Maree?"
"I don't have any training," Maree pointed out, grabbing her dagger out of her belt.
"We'll be here to back you up," whispered Jason, nudging her towards the creature.
Everyone grabbed out their weapons as Maree slowly approached the creature. Will had a knife, smaller than Maree's but he didn't want to use his bow in closed areas. Maree walked over and slight tapped the creature on the shoulder, trying to make sure it was human. Then all Hades broke loose.
The creature sprang up and seized Maree in their claws. The demi-gods unfroze and ran up to help their friend. The creature unfurled one wing and slammmed it into Frank, sending him flying into a wall. The wall shook at the impact and loose stone fell onto of Frank, trapping him under rubble.
Hazel screamed and ran towards the monster, full of rage. It opened its other wing and sent her flying into the other wall. A sickening crack thundered through the carvern.
Leo ran forward, hangs alight with fire and started throwing flames at the monster. It immediately jumped on him, pinning him to the ground.
Maree was struggling against its grasp, flames in her hands, shadows reaching out for her but it fended off her attempts.
Annabeth jumped from behind and landed on the beasts back. She raised her knife and was sent hurling towards the ground when the creature shook her off.
Piper and Nico were working together, Nico using his power to lift Piper on black stones, while she jumped from when to the other, attempting to stab it. Their effort was ruined when the monster smashed the stone and trapped them under it but not before Nick shadow travelled both of them away to the otherside of the room.
Jason, Percy and August were the only ones having an effect on the beast. Working together, they used their powers and skills to attack the monster.
The creature then cried and flew down a dark passage, taking Maree with him. August, Percy and Jason followed them in hot pursuit, leaving Will surrounded by rubble and ruin.
Will rushed over to Leo and Annabeth, helping them on their feet. "Here, eat this." he offered each a piece of ambrosia.
Nico and Piper walked over to them and took a piece of ambrosia from Will. "I'm going after them," stated Nico.
"Nico, no!" cried Will but it was too late, Nico was gone.
A small groan escaped from Will's side and he immediately rest over to Hazel. After checking her for broken bones, he gave a sigh of relief when all he could find was a sprained ankle. Giving her a piece of ambrosia, he helped her up and took her over to the rest of the group, where Frank was standing, already healed.
"What do we do now?" asked Will, passing Hazel to Frank.
"We go after them!" cried Leo and started running towards the doorway when Piper pulled him back.
"Calm down hothead. Maree said Annabeth's in charge if anything happened to her and it definitely hasn't been first leaf yet," she said, dragging him to the group. Will glanced at Annabeth who was deep in thought.
She looked up. "Splitting up was a bad idea but we did it anyway. We should probably find the others and then find Maree. It took her so it must know of her power. I know we all want to find her but let's find our team first." The others nodded.
Will walked next to Annabeth, still feeling uneasy about the situation.
"We'll find them, ok," supported Annabeth.
Will shook his head. "It's not that," he said. "I feel like something bigger is pulling the strings here."
The group walked in silence down the dark corridor. They had no idea of finding the others when Leo came up with a brilliant idea.
"Hey, doesn't Maree wear two necklaces?" he asked.
Will nodded. "A golden sun and one made of obsidian. She hasn't taken them off once."
"Why doesn't Hazel just track them?" Leo asked, innocently but everyone could see his massive grin.
"That's brilliant!" cried Annabeth, matching Leo's smile. "Hazel?"
"Alright on it," said the girl, closing her eyes. After a few moments they flung open again. "Down there," she said, pointing down the corridor. Following Hazel, the group ran down the passages, hoping to come closely to their friends and leader.
