Serena savored the gentle breeze and warm morning air as she sat at a table outside a Pokemon center. The young woman stretched her arms then, with a bright smile, resumed brushing Fennekin's thick tail while the fire-pokemon purred in approval.
"What an excellent way to spend the morning. Not getting pecked in the face or thrown off a rhyhorn." Serena woke up that morning on her own, went on a run with Fennekin, enjoyed a bath, ate breakfast, and now finished her coffee. She was free to pursue her own ambitions. However, Serena's smile faded the more she thought about that.
"What is my ambition?" She had no answer to this question. However, Fennekin appeared to notice her trainer's dilemma and nuzzled's Serena's arms and purred.
"Fenn."
"You're right, Fennekin. I'll figure it out. But first, we're going to find him." Serena stared out at the road as fiery determination lit inside her. "Santalune City, that's where Professor Sycamore said he'd be."
On the edge of Route 4, Ash and Clemont squared off against a pair of trainers in rollerblades. Bonnie watched from close behind, her eyes alight with stars as she watched with Dedenne, Charizard, and Froakie.
"Come on, Fletchling, hit him with Acrobatics!"
"I don't think so. Fletchling, use Agility!" Ash threw his hand out, and his fletchling flew up and over the opposing fletchling's Acrobatics attack. Fletchling's sharp angle caught Ash's opponent off guard by the look on her face. "We've been practicing this one for the last few days. I know you've got it. Arial Ace!"
"Fletch!" Ash's Fletchling shot himself at the other one, who tried in vain to turn and face him. His slash sent the second Fletchling into the ground with swirled eyes.
"Ahh! Fletchling!"
"Fletch?!" Fletchling blinked, taken aback by just how powerful he had become since Ash caught him.
"Great work, Fletchling."
"Pika."
"Grau."
"Froak." The rest of Ash's team offered congratulations while Bonnie turned to Clemont.
"Come on, brother, Ash and Fletchling won already!"
"We're trying!" Clemont grimaced when his opponent's Pidgey hit Bunnelby with quick attack. "Bunnelby use Mud Shot!"
"By!" Bunnelby sprung back up and hurled several bursts of mud into the air. However, the little bird dodged each one.
"Now we've got him, gust!"
"Bunelby, Dig!" Bunnelby burrowed his way underground moments before Pidgey unleashed a small tornado of wind where he had stood.
"What!? You can't hit Pidgey with a Ground attack!?" The boy on rollerblades laughed before Clemont adjusted his glassed.
"There's more than one way to use a move. Bunnelby, Double Slap!"
"By!" Bunnelby burst up underneath Pidgey and struck his underside with both ears.
"Pidgey!" The bird landed in front of his trainer, eyes swirled.
"Ahh, we did it!"
"By!" Bunnelby leaped into Clemont's arms as Bonnie clapped with Dedenne.
"Aww, we lost Roland."
"Hmp, we'll do better next time Calida." The two trainers returned their pokemon and then skated off.
"Great work, Clemont. I told you that you're getting better." Ash flashed Clemont a proud smile and saw the inventor's legs wobble.
"Thanks."
