Chapter 28: Tyrunt's Challenge

"Tyrunt, dragon tail!" Ash cried.

"Runt!!"

Tyrunt's eyes flashes blue like Ash's and he charged Pikachu with a glowing green tail. Pikachu grinned and sparred with the dinosaur using iron tail. Again and again, Tyrunt struck yet Pikachu not only caught each blow before he could blink but knocked the attacks aside with ease.

"You've got it, Tyrunt, dig deeper!"

Charizard and the others cheered him on too. Fletchinder and Lucario took a breather from sparring with Charizard despite the aura Pokémon's insistence on continuing.

Frogadier went against Ash himself, earning a growl from Lucario until Charizard huffed at him.

"Pika! Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted at Tyrunt

"Runt!"

"That's it, bite!"

Tyrunt snapped his jaws out and ensnared Pikachu's tail. A broad grin grew across his face until Pikachu smirked.

"Chu!"

Pikachu flew by his body around and with it sent Tyrunt flying. Ash and the others laughed as he caught Tyrunt who kept snapping his jaws at Pikachu.

"It's alright, Tyrunt. You'll get there one day," He assured him.

"Runt!" Tyrunt roared, declaring that he would be a strong Tyrantrum one day.

By late morning, Ash and his team went down to the coast, cooling their sweat soaked bodies in the surf, save Charizard and Tyrunt.

Lucario splashed Frogadier from behind and got a small tidal wave for his trouble. Ash laughed with Pikachu and the others as Lucario snarled and tried to fight back.

Tyrunt, however, sighed as he looked up at Charizard and his immense size. He pictured himself as his immense evolved form and lost himself imagining everything he would do.

"I think you're plenty strong now, Tyrunt," Ash said, patting him on the head.

"Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu added.

He reminded Tyrunt how he was not going to evolve and get any bigger. The dinosaur nodded but still daydreamed a little. It was not until he noticed Serena and Altaria that Tyrunt stopped.

The young performer glided through the air in her new wing suit while Altaria flew alongside her. Both swooped down and went through spinning fire and ice Braixen and Amaura conjured.

Tyrunt's eyes lost focus of the world around him the longer he watched Altaria and her graceful flying. The dragon bird danced with Serena in the air, and soon Ash smiled upon seeing a hint of red in Tyrunt's cheeks.

"Ta da!" Serena cried and threw her hands out with Braixen and the others.

Ash applauded with his team, including Lucario and Frogadier who emerged from the water, still soaked.

"Beautiful flying, Serena!"

"Merci!" Serena giggles as she came over and smirked at little at him. "Looks like there is something I'm better at than you."

"Hey, we all have our strengths and weaknesses! For example, I can do this!"

Ash snatched Serena up and dragged her to the sand where she erupted into uncontrollable laughter as they wrestled about.

"Come on, Ash. You're getting my wing suit covered in sand!"

"Hai, not a problem!"

Almost all of their Pokémon fell onto their backs when Ash carried her over and hurled them both into the wake. Tyrunt joined in the merriment watching Ash and Serena splash each other. However, his grin vanished upon seeing Altaria's feral expression.
