San Francisco

(YN's P.O.V)

San Francisco, one of the crappiest major cities the US has to offer but I call it home. When Adler and the CIA let me go, I wanted to start fresh in a completely new area. I know it sucks to say and most people are afraid to admit it, but the snap helped the city by wiping out a good number of the homeless. Yeah, yeah, I lack sympathy. What can be expected of me? I kill people for money.

The flight from India was relaxing. I left early in the night so I could get daylight in the States. I didn't have to worry about registering and or sneaking any guns because they weren't mine to keep. My gauntlets have built-in sensor jamming for metal detectors. Once I landed at SF International Airport, I went to the indoor long-term parking and located my 2007 Dodge Challenger. I've driven so many different cars for my jobs so going home in this every time never gets old.

I got back to my condo building and parked my car. Before grabbing my duffle bag from the trunk and going in, I put my headphones on and started my playlist. No one joined me in the elevator ride up. I wonder if the Assassin Association knows about that Widow's death yet? I never cared about constantly checking the leaderboard so I don't remember her place in it.

She'll be removed anyways. On my way to my door, I saw a young curly-haired ginger kid sitting on the floor. He was leaning against the door two spots from mine and crying. Weird, I don't remember that woman having a kid. Not my problem. I continued past and unlocked my door. Instead of going in, I stood there and stared at my door. You don't know this kid, (YN) or the woman she lives with. You have no reason to get involved.

My thoughts switched back to Dhaka... To the kidnapper kid I put down... They're probably near or the same age. I gripped the doorknob with my left hand. " Fuck. " I muttered before taking a breath and turning around. I paused my playlist lowered my headphones around my neck then walked up to the kid, looking down at him. He wiped his eyes and looked up at me. " Hey, kid. Who are you supposed to be? I don't remember her having any kids. " I asked curiously. The kid sniffled and looked wide eyes at me, probably surprised I paid him any attention.

" M-my grandma made mommy take me in. I don't think Mommy wanted me when I was born. " He replied. " You're not exactly a baby. Why wait this long for your grandma to try? " I inquired. " I was dead... When I came back... My mom didn't look happy and I ended up with my grandma. " The kid explained shakily.

I went wide-eyed at the answer. Damn... He was blipped and the responsibility is back on her shoulders. " I'm sorry to hear that. " I comforted. " Is that why you're outside? Did she ground you for something and send you outside? " He shook his head. " No, she's arguing with her boyfriend again and I didn't feel like hearing. Now that he mentioned it, I could hear loud but faint voices deep inside.

I bent down on one knee to level myself with him. " Listen, kid. I know you've just met me, but it seems like you need an older friend. I'm (YN), (YN) Running. " I introduced. with a weak smile. " I'm Freddy. " He returned. " It's nice to meet you, Freddy. I leave often for work but when I'm here, I'm gonna help look after you from now on. " I assured.

A smile started growing on his face. " Thanks, (YN)! " Freddy. cried out happily. " No problem, kid. " I claimed and ruffled his hair. " I just came back from a work trip so bear with them another day while I unpack and relax. Tomorrow, we'll get to know each other better. " Freddy nodded eagerly and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. " Alright, I'll power through. " He got up and went inside.

I went back to my door, nothing stopping me as I closed the door. What little conscience I rarely have seemed to clear.

In the end, I choose this life, and I'll never regret it.
