"I can't believe mom just left you standing there like that," Alia said. "That's like, so savage."

KS laughed. "Tell me about it, I was so sure she was going to break up with me for that which really, really sucked."

Haseena frowned and took KS hand in her. "I'm sorry, Karu, I didn't mean to hurt you," She said softly.

"Hase, we were young, it's been thirty years, it's fine," KS told her, laughing. "But I will admit, the entire week you ignored me, I was crushed."

"She ignored you?" Orhan asked, looking at Haseena amused. "Mom, why were you so mean to her? How could you torture the poor lady like that? She overthinks literally every situation."

I was in shock, how the hell was I supposed to know what true love was? The only example I had were my parents and we all know how well that went," HM argued.

"So Karu mama, what did you do?" Arya asked.

"Well, I cried-"

"Like a baby for an entire week," HM interjected. KS glared at her.

"I did cry and I contemplated breaking up with her," KS admitted before going right back in.

……….

"I can't believe she just left you there," Ayan said, the four of them sitting on Cheeta's bed while Cheeta and Santu did assignment work. "What the hell is wrong with her?"

It was the day after annual dinner and I was still reeling over what had transpired the night before with Haseena and to say I was crushed would be a complete and total understatement. KS explained.

"That's a really shitty thing to do," Ayan said, "Like what kind of person does that to someone. You should break up with her."

"I'm not breaking up with her," KS said, rolling her eyes.

"Not even after she did something that shitty to you!?" Ayan exclaimed.

"I love her!" KS shouted.

"Well obviously she doesn't love you!" Ayan again tried to manipulate KS.

"I know," KS said softly, trying her best not to cry.

"So then why stay with someone who doesn't love you?"

"God, Ayan just shut up! None of us know why Haseena didn't say it, but she's probably just confused and shocked," Santu shouted, "Just like give her some space or something and Karu, Stop being so hard on yourself about it. I'm sure she'll talk to you when she's ready."

"I'm just saying, Karishma was a lot happier when Haseena wasn't in the picture," Ayan mumbled, looking down.

"She makes me the happiest person in the world, Here, even when she's confused. I don't even care that she didn't say I love you back. That's not what bugs me, it's the fact that she won't call me back and she's avoiding me. That's what making me upset," KS told them quietly.

"Then just show up at her house or something." Ayan suggested.

"No, just let her think," Cheeta said pushing Ayan off the bed.

"And that's what I'm doing," KS said with a sigh. "I just miss her."

"I know but Haseena needs space," Santu told KS while KS nodded. You are right, and that's what I’m going to do.

For the next week, KS gave HM nothing but space. She didn't email her, she didn't try to talk to her in class, she left her alone completely. If she wanted to talk to me, she would when she was ready but I wasn't going to push her into anything and, if she broke up with me, well, I would accept it. I would be heartbroken but, I would accept it. If anything, I just wanted to talk to her again. I missed her like crazy and I missed the sound of her voice. She'd become my best friend and I didn't want to lose that because I was stupid and told her I love her. It hurt seeing her in class or in the hallway and how she would do her best to not even look at me. At this point, I really regretted ever telling her I loved her. I should've waited and I was stupid to just spring it on her at a random dinner at campus. Maybe I should have never told her at all, KS thought this all of the time.
