After they had finished with all that, they dumped the bodies, burned the gloves, and headed out chatting like old friends. As the day came to a close, Pauling dropped Caroline off at her apartment and they waved goodbye, "See you tomorrow?", "See you tomorrow!" Pauling said before driving off. Caroline was beaming as she got back to her apartment where Mick opened the door for her with a smile of his own, "Welcome home, darlin'!" She gave him a big hug, "Hey Micky! I missed you!" She gave him a kiss and he chuckled, "That good huh? Wanna talk about it?", "Oh my gosh, it was so fun- Well, I mean Pauling isn't so bad when you get to know her- Wait, I smell- Is that food?", "It is. You want to come inside and I'll fix you a plate?", "Oh! Right, of course!" Caroline said, letting him lead her inside to the table. He made the both of them a plate and set down beside her as she smiled gratefully at him, "Thank you so much Micky, you make me feel so special.", "What can I say? I love spoilin' my gorgeous wife.", "Well I'll just have to return the favor then, won't I? My handsome husband?" He laughed, "Later. Now, tell me what you two have been up to all day." Caroline beamed, "Right! You were right, Miss Pauling definitely has more going on, but she's been super nice to me today! She told me all about the gravel wars you were fighting and how it all started- which is super interesting, and it's crazy I never thought to ask you about it before." Mick shrugged, "It never mattered to me, I'd get paid the same weather I knew or not, so it just never seemed important.", "Oh! Well do you want me to tell you how it started?" Mick gave her hand a squeeze, "I'm alright. Thank you, though." Caroline nodded, "Right- Oh! But did you know before they died, Redmond and Blutarch got in on the bidding war for the London bridge! The bids were getting soo insane the city of London just decided to sell it to the next highest bidder, some guy from Arizona." Mick furrowed his brow, "Wait, the London bridge? Like, a bridge ?", "Yeah, he bought it for like, two million and they actually just finished reconstructing it last year! Over... Lake Havasu, I think- it's kind of crazy.", "Oh! Like in those Alamo comics?", "What?", "Doesn't matter. How'd the rest of your day go?", "It was good! We just chatted all day, it was really nice." Mick nodded, "Did you get any bookwork done between all the chit-chat?", "No, not today. They gave me some kind of weird test but new clients are always pretty nervous starting out, so that's kinda standard. Then Pauling had something come up and she took me-" Caroline paused. She tried thinking of how to put it most tactfully, but she took too long and Mick got concerned, "Lynn? You alright?", "Yeah- Uh... We spent the afternoon disposing corpses...", "...I'm gonna fuckin' kill her-", "Mick, no. It's fine-", "She had you doin' the bloody dirty work ?!", "No, we did it together-", "Disposing corpses Lynn!", "It needed to get done! I was just helping-", "Helping her get rid of bodies! Gettin your DNA all over everything-", "What about the times when I helped you move bodies? Huh?", "That's different, I made sure we were careful-!", "We were careful-", "Lynn, what were you thinking ?" Caroline knit her brow together and Mick rubbed his hands over his face, realizing what he'd said. He took a breath, "I need a moment..." And he walked to the bedroom, shutting the door behind him. Caroline got up and sat on the other side of the closed door, like they'd done before, and rested her head against the wood. She sighed. Yeah ... It probably wasn't the smartest move to let a stranger drive her to an unknown location to dump bodies, even if that stranger was her and her husband's boss... But- No... Now that she thought about it, it was just really dumb. Caroline's eyes began to water with frustrated tears and she swiped at them. From the other side of the door, Mick said, "I'm not really upset with you... You know that right?" Caroline pulled her knees into her chest, "I know.", "... I'm just- I'm just worried about you Lynn. I love you, and I care about you and I don't want to see you- I don't want to see you get hurt..." The door opened and Caroline looked up. A furrow creased Mick's brow and he sat down, enveloping her in his arms as she tried to scrub the frustration out of her eyes. He pulled her against him and said softly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry..." She shook her head before leaning against his chest, "It's not- I'm just frustrated. You're right, that was a really stupid thing to do.", "You just wanted to help, I get it." She sighed and he pulled her tighter against him. They sat like that for a long moment before Caroline said, "We really were careful.", "If I know you at all, I know that's true- and I know you can take care of yourself, I'm just... Worried.", "I know," She sighed, "And I love you too, and I don't want to worry you... Do you think- Do you think I should quit?", "Lynn, I'd never ask you to do that..." He took in a deep breath, then let it out, "I saw how excited you were when you came in... and I'm glad you're gettin' along good with Miss Pauling, even if I'm not happy about what she's having you do." Caroline looked up into his face as he continued, "But you're my wife Lynn... I'm gonna worry about you- I do worry about you, all the time. And... and I know that's just me being over-protective, but that's how I feel." Caroline eyes watered again, but with happy tears this time, and she placed a kiss on his cheek, "It's okay to be worried, I worry about you too.", "You do, now?", "Every time you go out, but I trust you and I know that if you need me, you'll call... I try not to think about it otherwise...", "Does that work?", "No, but I can be worried and productive at the same time." He chuckled and rested his head against hers, "I do trust you, Lynn.", "I know, Micky.", "And I'm sorry for shoutin', I know I need to work on that...", "It's okay, you did much better at catching yourself this time... I'm sorry for disposing corpses without telling you.", "Ooh, I don't blame you for that... But thank you. I love you, Caroline." He leaned down and kissed her properly, and when they broke, she responded simply, "I love you too."
