Gemma could count her on one hand the amount of times she had visited her father's mansion in Metropolis. Even when she had moved back to Metropolis for college she never felt the desire to. And she chose for her father to pay for her own apartment in the city.
Now that he was facing a lifetime in prison the mansion was hers, and yet as she walked inside it didn't feel that way.
The place felt cold and lonely, though she supposed that her father liked it that way. It explained why he had made sure to cut Gemma and her aunt almost completely from his life. At least he had the decency of sending the large check every week and paying for their own mansion in Palmera City.
Gemma had been foolish enough to believe that Anthony Ivo would finally step up as a father when her aunt first got sick. Looking back she shouldn't have been surprised by the disappointment. He had pretty much disappeared from her life when her mother had died at the age of thirteen.
She had her things sent over early in the day as she met with her lawyer, but it looked like she would have to do some major redecorating for the place to feel like home.
Thomas had been nice enough to arrange that everything that belonged to her father be removed from the master bedroom and test it felt like he was still in every corner of the room.
Taking a seat on the edge on the king sized bed Gemma turned on the T.V. She had gotten into the bad habit of obsessively watching the news and seeing what they had to say about her or her father.
Switching the channel to Metropolis 8 Gemma watched as they played clips of the press conference the Justice League did after they had defeated AMAZO. Superman and Wonder Woman were the ones mainly speaking about the victory but how nothing could replace the civilian lives that were lost.
Gemma let herself fall back on the bed, her life had never exactly felt normal but she had never expected this. She wasn't the one who created AMAZO but in a way it felt like she had. Maybe if she had paid more attention to her father she might have seen some signs that he was creating a dangerous weapon.
