Niyla POV:

I walked through the Hogwarts Express,— a gleaming crimson engine— the pistons hissed loudly and a slight jolt ran through the train as it started to move. I settled in an empty compartment, facing the direction in which we moved. The common September downpour made it impossible to see out the window. I leaned back in my seat, cross-legged, watching the rain smear across the large rectangular window. My thoughts turned to what was on this year's school list: dress robes.— For a special occasion. What could Hogwarts possibly be planning? Before I could move on to my next thought, my head turned automatically toward the sound of the compartment door opening.

"Lupin," he said. Leaving the door halfway open.

"Draco," I responded with a superficial grin.

He sat across from me, his legs sprawled carelessly apart. His disheveled pale-blond hair was damp from the rain, his attention on the window.

"Thought you'd be sitting with the Gryffindors," his eyes flickered to me then back to the rain.

"Why would I do that?" I retorted.

"S'not like they'd want me there anyway," I muttered under my breath.

He held up both his hands defensively with a raised eyebrow, then let them fall limply to his lap. "Still upset that not one of your friends sent you any letters during summer vacation?"

I rolled my eyes, shook my head briefly and averted my eyes downward to my hands, entangling them together over my legs.

"So I went to the Quidditch World Cup over break," he went on slowly. "I was surprised to see the Weasley's and Potter there together, at the Top Box of all places. God knows how they were able to afford such tickets."

I sighed, instinctively shooting daggers at him. "Why do you always have to be such a dick, Draco?"

He smiled, amused. "It's not like I could help it... The thought of them infuriates me."

"The sight of you infuriates me," I smirked while putting emphasis on the 'you' part.

"I find that hard to believe, Darling," he leaned slightly toward me. "I have all the letters you sent me over the summer that say otherwise." He grinned.

I tsked. "Don't make me regret this,"

"Please," he smiled with a quick chuckle. "Any woman involved with me will have no regrets."

"Ugh," I pretended to gag and shiver with disgust.

At that moment, Crabbe and Goyle appeared in the doorway.— Two well built boys. I was acquainted with and close friends with Draco.
