Her POV

On the day that was meant to be the happiest of her life, Dhvani sat in her room, clutching a letter that had arrived from her supposed to be husband. With trembling hands, she unfolded the letter, each word cutting deeper than the last. In it, he laid bare his truth—he wasn't in love with her, nor was he ready for the commitment of marriage.  He described himself as a free soul, unprepared to be tied down by marriage, and expressed his desire to travel the world without any restrictions.

Her heart felt like it was being crushed under the weight of his words. Each line of the letter seemed to tear apart the fabric of her reality, Her eyes were blurred with tears, her vision shifting between the letter in her hands and the empty space.

He left her on their wedding day.

She felt her soul was ripping apart leaving her agonizing pain. The man she thought she would spend her life with had abandoned her at the most important moment of their life.

Her wedding day which was  supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She had finally thought she would have a life partner-a friend, someone who cared for her. That maybe a someone for her who would prioritise her.

She had high hopes for her marriage and her husband. Why wouldn't she? The way he looked at her felt genuine, his laughter contagious, his affection seemingly unwavering. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to believe in the happiness she had always dreamed of, a love that felt mutual and real.

But her illusion was shattered quickly. She soon understood that happiness, at least the kind she had hoped for, was not meant for her. Love, so often painted as simple and fulfilling, seemed just out of reach—a dream that disappeared in front of reality’s harsher truths.

He had shattered her trust, and with it, her ability to feel.

Despite her pain, she didn't want her family to suffered by this betrayal, to feel her humiliation as their own. They had no hand in this, and she refused to let them suffer for it.

All she wanted was to get away—to escape the stifling crowd, the prying eyes, and the chaos. She needed quiet, somewhere she could crumble without fear of being seen.

But the crying and screaming around her were making her so anxious tha she didn’t even realize she was crying until the tears blurred her vision, her breath hitching painfully in her chest. Her hands trembled uncontrollably, her throat burned with unspoken words and a sharp pain pierced her chest, making her breathing irregular.

The noise began to die down, turning into whispers as his family entered the room-his parents and his elder brother. For a moment, she clung to the desperate hope that this was all some elaborate, cruel prank. Maybe he would burst through the door, smiling at her, saying it was all a test of her love and that he would marry her.  But the door remained closed. He didn’t come. He wasn’t going to.

His parents looked guilty, speaking to her parents with guilt and whispered tone. Their hands  folded and tearful eyes only made her more anxious .Her senses were overwhelmed; She stood frozen, her body detached from the storm raging inside her. She couldn’t hear the words being exchanged, couldn’t process the scene before her

Her thoughts were solely focused on him. She stood there like a living corpse, numb and unresponsive.

Her POV

They informed her, matter-of-factly, that she would have to marry his elder brother. The decision was made without a single glance in her direction, as though her thoughts, her feelings, didn’t matter.

No one paused to ask if this was what she wanted. If she was ready for it. They spoke of her as though she were a burden, a problem that needed solving. Her worth reduced to object her future decided for her under the pretext  of saving her honor.

Even her own parents didn’t ask how she felt, whether she was okay, or if she could bear the weight of this new reality. They simply expected her to accept it, to feel grateful that someone was willing to take her in at all—as though her life and choices were no longer her own.

It wasn’t the idea of marrying his brother that scared her most; it was the fact that no one considered her feelings or choice in the matter. The pressure to fix the situation without regard for her own life or happiness felt like a burden. She felt trapped, her future now being decided by others rather than by her own wishes.

She felt a deep anger toward everyone around her for treating her like a mere burden. The people she loved couldn’t see her pain.

All the love she had once felt had been drained from her, leaving her heart empty and devoid of warmth. She hated everyone.
Especially him. The man she had once loved the most, who had played with her emotions as if she were a toy. Now, he was nothing more than a mere name to her, a symbol of betrayal.

To them, she was merely a burden, not a person with feelings and dreams. In their rush to preserve their own reputation, they had lost sight of her humanity.

She wasn’t a bride anymore; she was a pawn in their ruthless game of honor.
