On that particular day, as the sun cast its warm glow in the house, a piece of unexpected news arrived in the household. Her mother-in-law's voice carried a feeling of excitement and hesitation as she shared the news - they were planning to continue on a religious pilgrimage, a journey that would keep them away from home and them for a long period of time.
Dhvani listened to the announcement, a sense of unease settling in her chest. The possibility of being left alone in the house with him for such a long duration was daunting and honestly scared her, to say the least. Her thoughts raced, considering the impact of their absence in her life.
In a moment of urgency, she spoke up, her voice carrying a hint of desperation and pleading "Could you please inform your son about this news before you leave? He should definitely know about you guys leaving."
Her mother-in-law's expression changed slightly, a moment of hesitation crossing her face. "Well, you see, beta he wouldn't have been too pleased about us leaving for so long. He tends to worry."
She understood the meaning behind her mother in law words - that he might not have allowed them to go on the pilgrimage if he had known. It was clear that his protective nature extended to his parents, and the idea of them being away seemed to form a sense of concern in him.
But she couldn't ignore the practicality of the situation. She didn't have his contact details, and they hadn't exactly been on the best of terms. The communication gap between them had grown into a mile, leaving her feeling isolated and not knowing how to inform him
Despite her own reservations, she pressed on, her heart urging her to do the right thing. "I know we might not be on the best terms, but he should know. Please, can you at least try to reach out to him?"
Her request hung in the air, an unspoken request for understanding from her in laws. She felt a wave of frustration and helplessness, her inability to communicate directly with him increased by the circumstances. She knew that their relationship was strained, that their interactions were often were held with tension, but there was a part of her that hoped for little bit of empathy, for a willingness to bridge the gap - even if only for practical reasons.
In the end, her parents-in-law left, their departure leaving her with a sense of loneliness in the huge house that felt overwhelming. The weight of their absence was way too much and she couldn't shake the feeling that the next few weeks would be a test of her patience, a challenge to go through the difficulty of their forced relationship in their absence. And as she stood alone in the now-quiet house, she couldn't help but wonder how she would live the days ahead without the safety net of the in laws presence.
