His POV

In the depths of his soul, he harbored a truth so dark, so burdensome, that he could rarely bear to acknowledge it, even to himself. It was a secret so profound that he had locked it away in the farthest corners of his heart, a truth he could never muster the strength to reveal to anyone, not even to the woman who had become his forced partner in this marriage.

The guilt loomed over him, a continuous presence that refused to be ignored. He couldn't bring himself to confess that he believed, deep down, that he might be the reason his wife was no longer in this world. The weight of that guilt pressed upon him like a sharp knife, suffocating him with remorse.

In his quiet moments of solitude, he often found himself haunted by the thought that he might have played a part in the tragic loss of his wife and their unborn child. The idea that his actions, his decisions, had led to their absence from his life was an unbearable burden to carry. It was a truth he had no intention of sharing, a truth that he believed would only serve to sow hatred and resentment in her heart if revealed.

He had made a promise to himself and his late wife to live his life alone, solitarily mourning, to bear the weight of his guilt alone. But life had a way of ending even the most important resolutions. The forced marriage, the reluctant companionship – it was a twist of fate he had never anticipated. And yet, he couldn't help but feel guilty for breaking the promise he had made to his wife, for entering into this new arrangement with a woman he barely knew.

The thought of confessing his darkest truth to her was unbearable. He couldn't bring himself to expose the depths of his guilt, to reveal the possibility that he might be responsible for the pain and loss that had shaped his life. The fear of her judgment, the fear that she might hate him, her condemnation, kept him silent.

But beyond the fear of her reaction, there was an even deeper fear – the fear of vulnerability. He had spent so long guarding this secret, this agonizing truth, that he couldn't bear the idea of trusting someone else with it. He couldn't see opening up to her, laying bare the rawest corners of his soul.

He felt an intense self-hatred for the choices he had made in the past and the actions he had taken. The guilt from his past decisions weighed heavily on him. He had never forgiven himself for the path he had chosen, and it had left him without the life he once had.

However, when the woman at the party accidentally revealed a part of the truth to his current wife, he was torn between two painful options. The truth, which he hadn't been able to admit to himself, was now in front of him, demanding to be acknowledged.

On one hand, he could confess everything, finally freeing himself from the guilt that had tormented him for so long. He could reveal his darkest secrets to the woman who had entered his life, but he feared her judgment and rejection.

On the other hand, he could bury the truth even deeper, continuing to live with his secrets. This would protect him from the vulnerability of sharing his darkest truths, even if it meant he would keep hating himself and living in isolation.

As he struggled with this inner struggle, he found himself unable to decide whether to confess or keep hiding the truth. The truth, which he hadn't fully admitted to himself, remained locked away, haunting his thoughts. And so, he remained trapped in a web of silence and guilt, unable to confess, unable to share the burden that weighed him down. The truth he hid was a shadow that cast a pall over his every moment, a reminder that some wounds ran so deep that they could never truly heal. In the quiet of his heart, he grappled with the knowledge that he was, perhaps, too weak to face his own demons, too weak to confide in the woman who had unknowing become a part of his troubled world.

Her POV

Over the next 2-3 days, a sense of understanding began to settle within her. It became increasingly clear that she was, indeed, a stranger in his eyes. The realization that he had no intention of sharing his secrets with her took a understanding, a bitter truth that she had no choice but to accept. Yet, conflicting thoughts raged within her, battling for dominance.

On one hand, she fought with the notion that a new relationship couldn't possibly be built on a foundation of secrets and unspoken truths. The idea of fostering a genuine connection between them seemed impossible if they continued to withhold their pasts from each other. She believed that openness and honesty were the cornerstones of any meaningful relationship, and her frustration deepened at the prospect of being kept in the dark.

However, another part of her thoughts acknowledged a contrasting reality. She recognized that, in truth, she didn't harbor romantic feelings for him. Her desires were for coexistence, and a sense of normal life within their marriage.

She had come to terms with the fact that their marriage was, in essence, a act for society. She didn't long for his affection; she simply sought to coexist without toxicity. She couldn't force him to open up to her. He really did not knew her and she had to be okay if he didn't wanted to share a bond and his secrets with her.
