After a long and exhausting day at work, he returned home. He was carrying a carefully chosen selection of her favorite dishes in his hands. Concern for her health settled heavily on his mind, which made him to immediately inquire about her well-being when he met his mother.

"How was she today? Was her health okay" he inquired worry evident in his voice

His mother, while assuring him that she was physically fine, shared an disturbing piece of news that
" she had locked herself in their room and has not opened since" but she didn't gave him any proper apparent explanation that why she had done it.

As the words reached his ears, a painful memory of his late wife flashed in front of his eyes, one in which she too had locked herself away in their room once from which she never emerged again and he never saw her face again after that.

A rush of adrenaline ran through him and he couldn't help but correlate all to the previous incident, and he ran towards the door of their room, fearing the possibility of a tragic repeat of history. At first he knocked the door hoping for her to open it but when she didn't. Fortunately, he had kept a key for emergencies like this. With trembling hands, he unlocked the door and stepped into the room, which was pitch black in darkness.

Panic clutched at his heart as he madly searched for her presence. The room felt like a chamber of something terrible, and his anxiety increased with every passing second. He couldn't find her on the bed, nor on the couch. Desperation growed in him.

Then, at last, he spotted her, crouched in a corner, her posture resembling sleep, yet she looked weirdly out of place. Relief flooded him, and he breathed a shaky sigh. Gently, he scooped her fragile form into his arms and laid her tenderly on the bed.

With considerable effort and a few sprinkles of water droplets on her face, she began to stir, her eyes began to open. Her surprise upon seeing him was unmistakable, and their eyes locked in a moment filled with emotions too complex to put into words.

As she slowly roused from her sleep, confusion clouded her vision. She sat up, disoriented, and he immediately approached, worry lacing his tone.

"Why did you lock the door and refuse to open it?" he inquired with genuine concern.

Her initial confusion gradually began to clear when all the flashback of the incident again resurfaced. She looked at him with a mixture of emotions, then responded,

"Because your brother was here."

"Who? Who was here?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowing in puzzlement.

She didn't stuttered her words, her voice tinged with bitterness. "Your brother, the one I hate, the reason for both of us miseries."

His surprise was evident, but she continued to gaze at him, trying to understand his true feelings. She couldn't help but voice her suspicion. "And I know you're the one who called him. You might have even told him everything."

He quickly grew defensive, his irritation showing as he replied, "Was he really here?" And when he was sure from her expression that she indeed was telling the truth. He dictated his each word with firmness trying to make her understand his point. "I know nothing about his return, and I haven't told him anything."

Their conversation heavy in the air, the tension between them unbroken.

In between their intense conversation, the vibe of the room remained disturbed by the weight of their emotions. His mother, sensing the tension between them, had decided to step into the room. Her first concern, naturally, was her well-being.

With a gentle smile, she asked, "How is your health, my dear? Is there anything you need?"

However, the atmosphere was filled with unspoken commotion. His raising frustration over his brother's unannounced return was noticeable, barely contained beneath the surface. He couldn't suppress the need to confront the situation any longer and He abruptly asked his mother, "Who was here?"

His mother hesitated, caught between her loyalty to her children and the difficult truth she now had to share. His demand grew, and his voice firm as he requested his mother for answers, his irritation clear in his tone.

"I'm asking again, was he really here? And if he was, then why?"

Their eyes locked in a silent battle of understanding and reluctance. His mother, wise and caring, chose her words with great care. She finally spoke, revealing the reason behind his brother's return.

"Because he is also my son, and do you think I can live without him forever? I didn't call him earlier because I knew it would be difficult for both of you."

She took a deep breath and offered a reassuring smile. "Now I see that you two have moved on and love each other. He won't be a problem for both of you. And I know they have a history together but they have to move on someday. And now when you guys are expecting a child. He wouldn't care for the past. Infact he would be happy for you guys. And I know for a fact that he won't be problem for you guys. Just let him stay with me. I want both of my son after everything that has happened in this house. I have seen both of your marriage getting broken. But now finally there is some happiness is back. I want us all together."

As the words hung in the air, they carried a mix of emotions - relief, tension, and a glimmer of hope for reunion. The room remained heavy with the unspoken tension, as they all struggled with the newfound circumstances.

With a range of emotions and tangled thoughts, she reluctantly nodded, accepting her mother-in-law's explanation. Her husband, still filled with frustration and confusion, wasn't entirely convinced. However, he couldn't deny his mother's longing for both her sons to be near her.

Amidst these mixed emotions, his gaze naturally fell upon her. Her eyes displayed a combination of relief and uncertainty. It was as if his brother's return had stirred up old wounds, and she was cautious about what the future might hold.

Upon hearing his mother's words about reuniting the family, a sense of guilt washed over both of them. They realized that they had kept her away from the whole family during her old age, a decision they now regretted. However, as their eyes met, they silently communicated their shared understanding that the secret they had hidden, if exposed, could shatter the family.

In unspoken agreement, they decided to bury that secret deep within them, choosing to protect the family's fragile unity, even if it meant carrying the weight of their hidden truth.
