It was the next day and todays training exercise was knife throwing. I never actually threw a knife before but when I was in Amity Ethan and I used to use sticks and put paint soaked cotton ball. Four gave us instructions of what to do and demonstrated for us a few times. Then he gave us free rein to practice. I grabbed a knife and prepared to throw. For my first shot I did pretty well it wasn't a kill shot but would really damage someone's shoulder. On the third throw I hit it right on the bullseye. I noticed Tris was also doing really well she had also hit a few bullseyes. Al on the other hand was not doing well at all. When he threw his one of his knifes it bounced off the board. "That was pathetic." Eric said watching Al. "It slipped." He responded. "Well, go get it!" Eric said pointing towards the throwing range. "What, while they're throwing?" He asked. "Are you afraid?" Eric questioned. "Of getting stabbed by an airborne knife? Yeah." Al retorted. "Everybody stop!" Eric demanded. "Stand in front of the target." Doing as he was told Al walked up to the target. This was not going to be good. Eric turned towards Four. "Four, gimme a hand here." Now facing Eric was facing Al. "You're gonna stand there while he throws those knives. And if I see you flinch, you're out. One thing you will learn here is that orders are not optional." This was not good at all knowing Al he was going to flinch as soon as it hit the board. "Stop." Everyone turned towards me. Anyone can stand in front of a target. It doesn't prove anything." I protested. "Then it should be easy for you to take his place. Same rules apply." I honestly wasn't scared walking up to the target my brother had actually helped prepare me for situations like this. He threw the first knife sending it next to my arm. "Aww come on, Four. You can get closer than that." Eric exclaimed. "You want me to give her little trim?" Four asked. "Yeah, maybe just a little off the top." Four then threw another knife making it land a few inches away from the side my head. "You can get closer than that." Eric said and you could tell he was having fun with this. I stared Four dead in the eyes as a way to keep myself from flinching. The third one landed even closer to the top of my head but still had a pretty good distance. Then the final one he threw flew next to my head just skimming the tip of my ear. "Points for bravery. Not as many as you just lost for opening your mouth. Now watch yourself. We train soldiers, not rebels. But we're done for today. Get out." Eric said annoyed.
Everyone left the room beside me and Four. "You all right?" He asked cleaning up the knives. "You cut me." I said grabbing my water bottle. "I meant to." He said continuing to clean the knifes. "Ya, I understand why." I then walked over to the target and started picking them off of the ground. When I headed to pick up the last one I felt a hand touch mine. I looked up to see Four's face a few inches from mine. I couldn't help but look into his eyes for a moment. Then after a minute he looked away. "Uhh here." I said handing him the rest of the knives. "Thanks." It was awkward for a moment. "Um I'm gonna head back to the dorms." I said awkwardly. "Oh yeah ok."
When I walked down the stairs everyone started cheering. "There she is. You have a death wish." Christina said walking up to me. "I can't believe you said that to Eric. You're the only one who's ever stood up to him." Will added. "Look at your ear. Let's get you cleaned up." We started walking to the bathroom when Molly came up to us. "Hey, Roxy. That was cool." She said and it sounded genuine. "Thanks Molly." Unfortunately Peter walked up to me next. "Impressive, softie, congrats." I rolled my eyes walking toward my bed. "What? Hey, oh also Stiff you're famous now. I mean, you're in the news. Yeah, listen. 'The recent transfers of Beatrice and Caleb Prior, children of Andrew Prior, call into question the soundness of Abnegation's teachings and values. What prompted them to leave? Perhaps the answer lies in the corrupted ideal of the entire faction. The theft of resources, the general incompetence, the abuse of their children. Did they beat you like Marcus Eaton's kid?" I seriously don't get why Peter always has to be such an asshole all the time. "Will you shut up Peter." He gave he a fake shocked face. "Wow softie that hurt. Wait actually why did you leave Amity did they abuse you too." I was so ready to punch him right in the face but before I could Tris gave me a nudge. "I'm out." I said walking out of the dorms. I honestly couldn't be in there for one more minute.
