"A family can be the bane of one's existence. A family can also be most of the meaning of one's existence. I don't know whether my family is bane or meaning, but they have surely gone away and left a large hole in my heart." - Keri Hulme
Savannah POV
I can't believe that my disgusting parents had the NERVE to show up at my place of business. What was their goal, to embarrass me? What hurt me? They've already done enough damage when I was younger.
I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my employees or random customers walking in.
"Can you two just go?" I asked while clenching my jaw.
Charles tried to touch me but I quickly snatched away from him. This man acts like he has amnesia, like he didn't touch me enough when I was just a kid.
"Don't ever touch me!" I whispered enough for him to hear.
Bennie just stood there shell shocked, this would be the first time he's ever met our "parents". I nudged him to bring him back to earth.
"Can ya'll just leave us ALONE? You've done if for at least 15+ years, I'm sure you can do it for longer!." He said in a brittle voice.
I turned to look at my brother and I could see the hurt in his eyes, I know he wants to cry.
Anita and Charles must've gotten the hint and walked toward the door before Anita walked back to us.
"When ya'll ready to listen to us, here's our information." she said and handed me a card.
They left the bakery and that's when the waterworks began from my baby brother.
"H- how could they just sh-show up here after all those years. Huh? What the fuck do they want from us? It seems like every time we try to escape from e-evil, it just lurks behind us and catches us at our most vulnerable moments." He said while his lips were trembling he took a long, shuddering breath and blinked rapidly to see past the rim of warm wetness threatening to overspill his eyes.
I couldn't even find the words to say to him.
"I'm SO SICK OF THIS SHIT Sav, I'm tired of laughing to keep from crying. Those people fucked up our lives from the jump, if they couldn't properly raise children they shouldn't have been so selfish and had us.
Our OWN FATHER did some of the most vile, menacing acts any human with a soul could do. They think we're supposed to just forget about what they did to you." he croaked out.
I grabbed him in a bear hug and just let him cry.
"Baby boy they're going to get theirs in the end. I'm not going to let Them ruin our lives, ever again you hear me?" I whispered in his ear wiping his tears, he nodded his head.
"Let's just get through these last thirty minutes of work and we're going to my house." I told him and informed my employees we were closing early for today.
They were trying to figure out why Bennie was upset, I just said that he wasn't feeling well. I'm surprised they couldn't hear him screaming.
We closed up the shop and headed out on the road. Both Kai and Bennie was knocked completely out, which gave me the opportunity to play some music. When I heard J. Cole's voice I immediately raised it up.
