After her lame attempt of trying to piss me off by pronouncing my name like I'm a goddamn kindergartner, I decided I was also going to play her little game. "You know, I thought Californian's were supposed to be all sunshine and rainbows," I said, raising an eyebrow hoping to get a rise out of her.

My eyes widened as I thought I saw a small flicker of sadness gaze past her eyes after what I said but it disappeared just as quickly. She adjusted her small frame to stand more confident. "You know, the 90s called, they want their hair style back," she threw back at me.

Oh it's on. I happen to like my shaggy hair. "You know, the heels aren't fooling anyone, you're still short and small, like a pebble," I said.

She scrunched up her nose and for a split second, it was kind of adorable in a weird way but then she opened her mouth again and the annoyance came right back. "You know-"

"Okay," Jeremiah said loudly, cutting her off and causing the both of us to look at him and Steven. I completely forgot these two were here with us for a moment. "You know, we get it. You two like each other-"

"Oh no, let me stop you there. I think Jere meant, 'don't like' each other," Steven added with air quotes as he laughed and swung his arm around Jeremiah. Oh. I will definitely be throwing these two idiots into the pool after the Belly flop. I forgot how immature these two together can be.

"Amigos!" A deep male voice yells from across the street. Daniel started making his way over to us and a grin appeared on my face. Now this guy, this guy I liked. How the two of them are twins, is beyond me. Daniel is cool, smooth and collective. He's tall, athletic and plays soccer. At times I wished he played football, but we compromised when it came to sports.

Whereas his twin, Elena, is short, loud and short tempered, emphasizing on everything short. She's good looking, don't get me wrong. Long curly volumized hair, plummed lips and curves for days but she has this terrible princess attitude. Some guys might be into that, wanting to be her prince, but not me.

Daniel leans his forearm against the top of Elena's head and rests against it, basically using her like a short pole. I laughed, this wasn't unusual for the Medina's twins. Daniel was constantly picking on Elena and at times I would join in.

"Que pasa?" He said and I furrowed my eyebrows trying to understand what Daniel was saying. Over the years, I have picked up on a small amount of Spanish from hanging out with Daniel at the Medina's beach home.

While I was trying to decipher what was being said in Spanish, Elena started bickering with Daniel as Jeremiah and Steven joined in laughing. She's feisty, always has been. A fire, I thought I witnessed dissolved two summers ago. That summer was odd, even for her. Elena didn't leave their beach home at all. I saw her occasionally walk around the house and hide back inside from my bedroom window but that was the only sight of her. She didn't come over for the fourth of July barbeque or to any of the dinners we invited her and her brother to. I would always go to their house to hangout with Daniel because Steven, Jeremiah and Belly would annoy me, but that year, Daniel insisted on hanging out at my beach house instead, which was a first. I didn't step foot into their home once that entire summer or even spoke one word to Elena.

"Jacob Moore keeps blowing up your phone. I thought I told you to stay away from him," Daniel said. Then mention of a boy drew my attention back into their conversation. Jacob Moore was a local here and now, with just the mention of his name, irritation rose through me. He was definitely one of my least favorite people now because anyone that associated themselves with Elena willingly must have a terrible personality as well.
