"Fuck!" My yell muffled into the couch pillow. No matter how many times I try to somehow bring up my mom's condition to her, she shuts it down before I can even begin to express how I feel. I know that she knows that I know without even having to say it out loud.

But yet, she chooses to ignore it. I guess that's why adults always say, ignorance is bliss.

I wish I could be ignorance on my mom's condition. Unfortunately, I don't have that blessing.

I fell down onto the couch resting my head against the top edge of the couch. My arms spread out letting my body go limp as I closed my eyes. I came over to the Medina's house and let myself in because I knew no one was going to be here tonight and I had to get out of my house. Sebastian had told me earlier while we worked on the sailboat that he was going out to drink at Casa de Luna to watch the baseball game and that Elena would be out with Shayla.

I needed to get away. Away from the delusion that is this perfect summer that my mom is still trying to create from across the street.

"Conrad?" I suddenly heard.

I immediately opened my eyes and found a confused Elena standing in front of me. Her eyebrows scrunched together as she looked at me with concern. I didn't like it. The concerned look she held in her eyes. I'm not surprised though, a couple seconds ago I was just yelling into a pillow in her living room. She must of heard.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, not moving from my sitting position. I had no energy to get up or to even be shocked that I was caught here.

The cute concern look is now gone and replaced with annoyance. I think I prefer this look better anyways. Elena crossed her arms across her chest and raised an eyebrow at me. "What am I doing here at my house? I should be asking you, what are you doing here, once again, at my house?"

Yes, feisty Elena is always my favorite Elena. I tried to resist a laugh at the thoughts going on through my head. "Are you laughing at me?" She said. I guess my resistance didn't work.

I shook my head. "No, never," I said. "It's just that, your dad said you were going out with Shayla tonight and he was going out. So I thought the house was going to be empty and I needed some alone time."

Yet again, as fast as it came, gone was the feisty Elena and back to the look of concern. This is why I don't like sharing things. I don't need people giving me those looks of pity. She should understand. I scoffed.

"Well Shayla canceled on me and Max is busy with his family," Elena said nervously rubbing her hands against the side of her legs.

A weird chill ran through my body at the mention of Max. After seeing those drawings of Elena in his sketchbook yesterday at the art show, I felt sick. I made an excuse to Steven and left through the back door texting Jeremiah to catch a ride home with Elena instead.

I haven't mentioned the drawings to anyone and I know for a fact neither has Steven because then they would know we went through Max's sketchbook and he wouldn't do anything to upset Shayla at the moment with whatever they have going on. "You're not okay. Conrad, you're shaking a bit," she said.

Was I? I lifted my hand off my leg slightly seeing my hand tremble. I quickly drop it back down and grip my shorts. I didn't need this now. "And you were honest with me just now instead of avoiding the question. What's going on?"

I took a deep breath, finding it suddenly hard to swallow. My chest felt tight and I rubbed my hands against my shorts trying to wipe off the sweat forming from my palms.
